Probably Streets of Rage or Golden Axe on the Megadrive on that six-in-one cart.

I'm not sure, it might have been the original Monkey Island, but I can't be certain.

It was probably Adventure on the Atari 2600.

it was either Bruce Lee or Son of Blagger on C64, but as both games just restarted I'm not sure that I can truly say I ever finished them.

The arcade version of final fight. Must have spent a small fortune on that machine

I think Pac-Man on the 2600 for me too. I don't remember the screen dimming though? I think the score goes up to 999,999, resets to 0 and then the game restarts :? Maybe Laird, or another knowledgeable Atari type, know what happens and can shed some light.

Otherwise it's probably Bruce Lee, Ghostbusters, Danger Mouse in Double Trouble, Beach Head or something else on the C64!
I know Atari 2600 Space Invaders the score definitely resets to 0000, I always thought "Pac Man" ended.. Quick check and somebody on Atari Age says it does end

not counting those 2600 games that can be clocked (Asteroids would have been the first game like that I clocked), Megamania - it stops when you score 999,999.

Probably Super Mario Land 2.

One of my favourite games to this day.

Especially so since I can sit down and complete it in under 30 minutes now.

Never felt Super Mario Land to be as strong a game.

Clocking Space invaders on 2600, but for first "completion" screen, definitely Atic Atac on the speccy.
XBL: RainMan 999

Asterix on the NES.
I wonder who else can say that as according to this forum nobody in Europe owned a NES, those who did were unlikely to have completed it first and the game wasn't released in America.
That said I expect some French Asterix fans may have completed it first too.

Must have been Fire Ant on the Commodore +4 (my first computer). Was among the games bundled with the system and the only one I remember finishing.

Sonic on the Master System. Completed it with my younger brother (taking level / life a turn), and happy that I still own both the system and game.

Next game I can remember finishing was Streets of Rage on the Mega Drive, this time co-op.
