The games and hardware.

Super Mario Land 2 and Pokemon Yellow are my highlights. Oh, and Mole Mania.

Nintendo always make great hardware and the GB is one of the earlier examples.

Very fond memories playing my cousin's Play It Loud DMG and later my own Pocket.

Yes, both Tetris and Double Dragon were brilliant introductions to hand held gaming, and Super Mario Land was my first Mario game, and I loved that too, add titles like Mole Mania, and Bill & Ted's Excellent Gameboy adventure, Operation C, Prince Of Persia, Monster Max, Terminator 2, and Metroid 2, then it is one classic little console.

Don't quite know how I put up with the original model's awful screen, but still..

Because it had shitloads of games that due to the limitations had to be inventive and playable.

Never had the original game boy, but I did have a game boy colour as a kid. Pokemon kicked major ass :)

Yeah, Tetris was one of my first games. It's so simple, yet so addicting.

The first time I clocked a Gameboy was in 1991 during a foreign exchange trip. A few of the German kids had them on the coach and were glued, while I just dismissed them as the naff Game & Watch efforts that I'd seen previously.

After 5 seconds playing Super Mario Land I was hooked, and unfortunately had to wait a whole year before getting one of my own.

I got a gameboy waaaaaaaay back, just a few weeks after it came out in fact, for Xmas 1990. Yes, I remember it well, playing Tetris on a machine that was light years ahead of the LCD games from a few years back which some people mistook it for at the time. I got slagged at school for having one come January 1991 though, but by the end of the year, everyone knew what it was and how good some of the games were.

The Gameboy was MILES behind the other two handhelds technically, especially the Lynx. I don't think anyone could say the GB's graphics had an appeal, like for example the spectrum's neon colours could. They were functional and that was it, and the screen was poor. But they did the job, and you got a handheld which was truly portable with sixteen hours playing time from four duracells! And you could play it outside because it was LCD reflective. Gameboy v Lynx was a battle between practical and beautiful, and the GB won. Super Mario Land was a fine platformer, Tetris was brilliant, and there were tons of great arcade conversions of old games that I only found out about years later. The negatives were the low difficulty level of many games and that there were just so many derivative platformers it was unreal. The Lynx- with its smaller catalogue -definitely had a wider variety. Still though, the GB should be justly remembered for those first three or four years when a lot of great conversions and original titles came out. As for the Nintendo Seal Of Quality? Yeah, right!
