Favourite First Person Shooter?

Re: Favourite First Person Shooter?
Doom 2 on PC. Nothing I have played in the genre since has knocked me sideways the way that game did - the genre simply hasn't moved on much - in essence it is still running around and shooting. The pure fun of online multi-player masks how little things have developed.
I don't like the genre because it sucks up too much resource and talent that could be put to better use in other genres. It's mainstream gaming and therefore a bit bland for my pallette no matter how well it is made.

I actually preferred Quake to Doom.
Halo is my fave ever though.

Metroid Prime, great graphics, music, atmosphere, design and gameplay. A bit of a generic hybrid, but it showed more could be done with ther first person perspective. The sequels are awesome too.
Closely follwed by Goldeneye 007 (back in the day, not so good now) and the Timesplitters games.

A lot of it is down to Field of Vision with the narrower the FoV, the more likely motion sickness is induced. Most PC games let you adjust it but it never seems to be an option on consoles.resident paul wrote:After playing 10 mins I get dizzy, headaches & feel sick(sometimes want to vomit!) that my motion sickness!koopa42 wrote:What is the deal with motion sickness? I know it's real because I know 2 people who get it especially with games that have 'gun sway' as you walk. Has there been any research? Surely some boffins have had a 50 grand grant into it?resident paul wrote:

Doom/Doom 2. Just based on the fact I'm still playing it now, 20 or so years later (via PS3) And its still fantastic. I'm using the 'Classic, Complete' version (downloadable from PSN) but unfortunately getting a multiplayer game is rare as rocking horse sh*t. Doesnt help its incompatible with the BFG version on the Doom 3 disc
honorable mentions -
Half-Life - (The multiplayer was also fantastic - I even ran a clan at one point
)
XIII - Loved the Gamecube version
Duke 3D/Blood/Shadow Warrior
Outlaws
Current Gen game -
Rainbow six Las Vegas 2 - Play this a quite a bit on PS3, can be tough online though for a cack shot like me, reminds me of Counterstrike a lot.
The Conduit - Really liked this on the Wii, I found the controls were great too.

Re: Favourite First Person Shooter?
Ahhh - I forgot Black on PS2 . Enjoyed that quite a lot. Think its still in my now vastly reduced PS2 collection so may have to fire it up.
Re: Favourite First Person Shooter?
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. Perfect for co-op larks, decent deathmatching that didn't have all that perk nonsense you get these days.
Re: Favourite First Person Shooter?
I forgot the 'Godlike' Unreal Tournament!
Far better that Quake 3 (IMO) Fantastic selection of weapons, Good A.I. and Brilliant maps (Facing Worlds is tremendous)

Re: Favourite First Person Shooter?
The amount of people that don't seem to understand the genre 'first person shooter' is astonishing
Re: Favourite First Person Shooter?
Define the genre then.

First Person Shooter. Just like it says it the thread title. I'm not going to get dragged into any crap, people know the meaning, especially the people putting non-FPS titles in just to bring the usual flame they so like to huddle around.
