Re: Football Games
On 8-bit systems, nothing comes close to Emlyn Hughes International Soccer. It blew me away.
Then, I like several for the Amiga... Lothar Matthaeus is probably my favourite, but also Kick Off 1&2, SWOS and World Cup 90. And Championship Manager (93/94 and 94/95) was fantastic, I still play it from time to time these days.
Now I can say I'm a PES fan, even if in the last years the series did not improve at all... quite the opposite.

^ Someone's not played PES 2014 yet, I'm guessing (although the balls-up regarding the online play on the 360 gets major
from me).

Nope, I'm waiting for the price to drop. Is it really good, then?Liamh1982 wrote:^ Someone's not played PES 2014 yet, I'm guessing (although the balls-up regarding the online play on the 360 gets majorfrom me).

Re: Football Games
As I've already said I believe it's the best since PES 6. The play flows better, formations are less regimented, headers and set pieces have been fixed and I found the option file that fixes the fake names and the Premier League
!

Re: Football Games
Good to know, PES 6 has been the best in a long time. I'll pick it up as soon as I find a good offer. Then I'll play a master league with MAN REDLiamh1982 wrote:As I've already said I believe it's the best since PES 6. Re: Football Games
I've never been a fan of Football - either the real game or virtual, but I do have to admit I used to enjoy ISS on the SNES when I was younger.

Re: Football Games
I loved Kick Off 2 in the day (the article looking back at the Kick Off series in Retro Gamer was very harsh in my opinion and by a guy who obviously never liked the games in the first place).
Sensible World Of Soccer is the best footie game ever in the history of everness though.
I have tried getting into the Fifa games but I just cannot get to grips with the controls.
I'm a simple guy and as such need simple controls I guess.

Re: Football Games
Anyone play 'footballer of the Year' 1 and 2 on the 8/16 bits? Those were awesome games!

Re: Football Games
I also loved italia 90 on the megadrive. I seem to remember it being really really hard.
I could only win if I played as brazil or Germany against costa rica or Egypt.
I played the amiga version which was totally different, the megadrive version was top down view with big heads and the amiga game was a side on scrolling game.
I really miss those days, each machine would get a totally different version of the same game whereas now 360/ps3 games are near identical, minor screen tear hear minor v sync there etc.

Re: Football Games
The only football games you'll ever need are
SWOS Total Pack- Swos with modern extras
TIF2003- What Swos would have been if had done 3D correctly
Sega Soccer Slam, for the sillyness
Fifa RTWC'98- Best version of Fifa, no need for combos for tricks
and
Fever Pitch Soccer.
There are loads of good and great games out there, I may be a lil biased in my selection but the above covers a lot of things without all of the insanity
