Modded original xbox

Post by koopa42 » Sat Sep 14, 2013 2:31 pm

Yes yes lets poke the hornets nest, I've picked one up (it's my old one) and I just want to ask one thing ...... were are the ro ...... kidding.

What's the setup like these days? When I last used one it's was ropey getting MAME etc running on it, is it still choresome? or is it super easy with a nice front end that does everying? If there are good solid operating systems, which is the one to go for?

What dashboard does it boot into?
I'd leave coinops unless you have a bigger HDD and TBH the huge download is made up of artwork & videos.
It does look good although I tried it a few times and failed due to needing the exact roms (version & quantity).
You can put an older CoinOps onto a std HDD with hundreds (if not thousands) of games.
It has a simple frontend and if you have a CRT tv the xbox lightgun works well too.
I used to have MAME that ran from a DVD, let me know if you want me to look it out.

[edit] It's not Mamedox I have now it's an older Coinops - video added

There is a guy on jamma+ called Beaps who sells the xboxes fully loaded with COinops 5 for around £80.If you supply the xbox with HDD sure he will do it a lot cheaper saving you lots of flucking about.

yeah I wish they'd faff off with the videos and pics and posters, I just want the games. It's an ongoing thing because I'm going to pick up a jamma cab and put it in that.

If your dash has a file manager (most do) then stick in a dvd & copy the lot to your emulator or program directory [either works].

Cheers for all the help, I (stupidly) thought it would just be a case of 'aquire' this, FTP it to that and boom, job dome but it's all 'missing binary files because we don't like you pirate scummers' stuff, or here's coinops 38274628346827346827.9378462973648276 dunno if it's right.

Yeah, I found that too with CoinOps (the newer, fancier ones), one duff rom and the thing will not work.

I could probably take the version on my xbox and put it on a DVD?

This could be good for chucking in a xbox or maming koops http://www.jammaplus.co.uk/forum/forum_ ... le-of-cabs

To copy from the dvd to play off the hdd you will need a program like boxplorer or dvd2xbox if it is already on the xbox it is usually found in systen utilites.

Ha ha! My techno gubbins are so awesome, it's only taken me a day to find out that ....... the HHD has 93gb free space after deleting most of the games. It still has a load of preinstalled emus but they can't be up to scratch.

I'm guessing that it will be a 100gb HHD then? is that good?
