What game system was made for you?

Post by Rayne » Sat Sep 07, 2013 2:31 pm

You know that feeling you get with a certain system? That one system where literally every single game released was done so, seemingly with you in mind. If not the games, maybe it was a specific controller design or functionality. Either way, what system do you feel was designed just for you?

This came to me as I was playing on my Vita earlier today and I noticed the games I had:

Dead or Alive 5
Disgaea 3
Dragon's Crown
Dynasty Warriors Next
Everybody's Golf
Gravity Rush
Hatsune Miku Project Diva F
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2
Silent Hill: Book of Memories.

All of these games are relatively niche and specialised. All of them are on one platform in the palm of my hands! I really couldn't want for much more out of a game library than that :)

Well the Gamecube is probably my favourite system, but this is a slightly different question, so I'd probably say the Wii.

Not only does the Wii have it's own great games, such as Metroid Prime 3, Skyward Sword, DKCR, and the Mario Galaxies, but it was backward compatable so I could play all my Gamecube favourites too, plus other classics on the Virtual Console, games I missed out on such as Super Metroid. I can also use my Gamecube controllers on the Wii which has saved me having to buy a classic controller. So as a big fan of the Gamecube the Wii felt somewhat made for me.

I think this is one of the reasons gamers are sooooo fickle, negative and downright abusive sometimes. The feeling that a game or game system should be tailored directly for their particular needs and no one elses.
In answer to your question though...
No game system was made for me but the 360 has brought me more joy than any other console ive ever owned... and I think ive owned them all. :D

I am fickle, but I think the PlayStation One, but scratch that, the PlayStation 3 (as it plays PS1).

Closely followed by Halo 3, wait I mean Xbox 360.

The PS2 WAS made for me. See what a little "cosmic ordering" can do for you :D

Gamecube. (surprise, surprise) The wavebird is my favourite controller ever and the game library, although small, can be expanded hugely with the addition of a GB player. Can't ask any more of the little box. It's the only machine i couldn't be without. :D

Some blurry graphics asides, I'd say the N64.

I've not enjoyed gaming quite as much before or since the times I've spent playing stuff like Super Mario 64, Pilotwings 64, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Blast Corps, Wave Race 64, F-Zero X, Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, Zelda: Majora's Mask, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Paper Mario, WCW/NWO World Tour, WCW/NWO Revenge, WWF Wrestlemania 2000, WWF No Mercy, 1080, Mischief Makers and Cruis'n World. :)

I really liked the controller as well, once you learned how to hold it properly.

i'll be fickle and choose a few.

well i started console gaming with the mega drive, i love the availability of multicarts which i love, racing games are great on it, and sonic had a few awesome outings, only downsides are the underwater levels. the pads are nice, especially the competition pro one off Trevor (nokgod) I never had one of those at the time and it is truly a beauty to use and could end up being used with my ms

master system again is really nice, it got me back into retro gaming and has given me hours of fun, introduced me to lots of great people and of course the pad is a good size and simple to use especially with games like slapshot and platform games

ps1/ps2- wow just wow. i missed the ps1 first time round and i missed out, great console and the ps2 built on very strong foundations. love the pad, the games library and about 10 years on mine is still nice

Ps2 for me. There is just so much on this console across all genres that I enjoy playing and still want to play.
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

The PS2 library was made for me, but I don't really like the console itself. I don't like the way it outputs graphics, and I feel like PS2 lasers wear out faster than other disc based consoles. There seems to be a lot more moving parts.

I like the way the Gamecube feels, but it doesn't have a lot of my favorite genres. And the controller, while very comfortable in my hands, isn't very versatile.

Dreamcast for me. I had just started my teaching career ('99) and was very busy, bought the dreamcast with my second ever pay check and there were loads of quick arcade style conversions that suited me, powerstone, crazy taxi etc...

PS2 for me. I love jrpgs, and with its grandiose library of games plus retro-compatibility with the PS1 library, it could be enough for a lifetime. Fantastic, timeless console.

Ooooooooh tough one. Would be between the megadrive when I was kiddy winkle but then it could also be the ps1 I bought with my own money the first Christmas it was available here when I was 16. Spending that amount of money on anything was a new experience for me. But when I first turned it on and saw ridge racer and wipeout running for the first time blew me away. Watching clips of those games on games master did not compare to witnessing it first hand. Yes definitely the ps1 for me

My PC, of course. For that price it bloody well better have been made specifically for me.

....but okay, if I had to pick a console, I'd say the original NES. It was my favorite console back then, it remains my favorite now.

And maybe the PC-Engine, though I dont actually have one yet. But I hear that it's practically made of shmups, so it sounds like something I need to have.
