Hewson re-lived

Post by RobHewson » Sun Aug 11, 2013 7:03 am

Hello :)

My name's Rob Hewson, my dad ran Hewson Consultants and 21st Century Entertainment back in the day. I was born in 81 so as you can imagine I had a very biased C64 gaming collection and recently I've had the itch to start reliving those memories. I was given a C64 by a work colleague and have been rather addicted to perusing eBay for old Hewson cassettes ever since. I started a thread over at lemon64.com talking about the games, posting images of some of the original artwork that's still lurking around and posting the odd untold anecdote of Hewson / 21CE games and people. Somebody there suggested I should also post up here, so here I am!

Cool to have you here!

Both companies released some brilliant games over the years, especially the Raffaele Cecco stuff on the Spectrum and Pinball Fantasies.

Thanks! :)

I thought I'd start by posting some photos of original artwork and other swag I found when rummaging through old cupboards. What's the best/easiest way to post images here as the attachment size limit is quite small

Yeah really glad dad was able to keep some of those, truly brilliant pieces of art. Now that we have CG everywhere the old airbrush artwork is all but gone.

Welcome in. Tell your dad I said thanks. Hewson was always a sign of quality when it came to spending what little cash I had.

One of the early copies of Pinball Dreams. Only the first batch were shipped with this box art so if you have this, it's rather rare!

Welcome sir, surely some of the greatest first posts ever, such fantastic pictures, I played so many Hewson games years ago, and still enjoy then now, I played them on the Spectrum, where they were without question some of the machine's best, Exolon, Cybernoid, Ranarama, Marauder, Nebulous, Avalon, Uridium, Firelord, and one of my all time favourites, Quazatron, a very proud heritage for your family, I would imagine.

Welcome !

Great great memories of Hewson. Even as a 14 year old kid with hardly any pocket money when it came to Hewson i always had to buy their games as they were quality.

The amount of time me and my mate spent on Quazatron on the Speccy, loads !! Think Marauder is an underated classic, Uridium i was always crap at but it was one of those 'wow watch this game' type of games back then !

Also think Avalon was very underated, didnt that come out before Knight Lore etc ? Surprised that game didnt have more of an impact.

But Hewson ! What a company

Hewson produced some of the best games on the 8-bit computers... I have fond memories of the Amstrad CPC versions of Technician Ted, Cybernoid, Exolon, Stormlord and many others.

Welcome to the forum Rob! :D
