I've got £250 burning a hole in my pocket - so do I need a DS? What games must must I have?

Do you have a wireless router or network?
Do your friends have DS's already?
Do you like gaming with unusual control methods?

If you can answer YES to any two of the above, you should get a DS Lite.

also does your wife/partner etc watch a lot of tv so your gaming is restricted to either the laptop pc, or a console with it's own screen (ie the ds lite)

You scored .5 more than me and I got one, so you should too.

I've had mine for 3 days. I probably scored the same as you on the questions and I am liking it up to now. Will pick up a few more games today that are more my style but the stylus control is great for many things. I'd say go for it.

Merman, why the question about wireless? I have a router, what can I do with it?

If my experience is anything to go by, you can sit there waiting for ages for a MarioKart gaming session, watching as three potential racers join, only to watch them vanish with a strange bleeping noise from the DS. After a few minutes of this repeating, you might then be able to enter a race with:

- One person who will quit almost immediately once they find themselves in last place;
- One person who "snakes" around the entire course, who you'll only see once as they zoom into the distance;
- A final person who races properly, but ultimately disconnects before the final race, presumably because they too are getting annoyed by the "snaker".

Do you like games that are brilliant? If so, you need a DS.

I only played it online once, that was enough.

Get a few friends together though, and the DS to DS multiplayer is fantastic. Whenever I see my brothers we always end up playing marathon 4-player Mario Kart DS sessions.

Just been to Game, Gamestation and an indie shop to try and get some preowned DS games. Came back empty handed, can't believe how much they are holding their value. Phoenix Wright 1 is £25 used even though you can get the follow up for £30 new.

Same as GBA games for an awful long time (and, to some extent, even now). Remember that US games also work in the DS, and there are plenty of companies that ship overseas, and so you can take advantage of the extremely favourable exchange rate. (Just remember to keep each individual order's value under £18.) Also, check eBay: with careful bidding (i.e. bid a maximum and then walk away), you can often grab yourself bargains from auctions that start at £1 or less. (Many DS games tend to go for between £10 and £15, which is usually a large saving.)

I go to Vegas in 6 weeks so hopefully I can find a game store somewhere nearby and can stock up on DS and PSP games (PSP games are region free aren't they?).
