41

And that was with a few guesses.

I always thought it was Continental Circus, which, on reflection is just a stupid name for an F1 game!

It is called continental circus. And yes, that is a stupid name.

Good game, though.

45/50. Not bad.

About Continental Circus, I once read a story about the name, that was supposed to be Continental Circuit, but there was a "lost in translation" from the Japanese.

I don't know about the lost in translation business, but Circus is an apt name for F1. No, not because of the many clowns - and lord knows, there are many! - but due to the heritage of the word. The Circus Maximus, for example, which was a chariot racing venue open to the public.

I'm sure that Murray Walker at least once also referred to it as a circus (probably many times, but you know Murray!), as I think did James Hunt.

I got 41, a few silly mistakes and a couple of good guesses, so it all evens out.

That's it - it may be a cultural reference that doesn't translate rather than an obvious error. Same as with Donkey Kong.

Thing is, I don't think it is a cultural mistranslation. As long as I can remember (which is only as far back as '83) F1 has always been referred to as a circus. It makes sense, if you think about it: F1 travels the globe, pitches tents (well, motor-homes these days) and goes racing. It is a circus in both historical and modern terms!
