Hoping to keep my post quite straightforward and understandable and free of ambuguity... here goes.

10 points - Mario. Instantly recognisable, enduring and as popular now as ever.

9 points - Sonic. The same, only less so.

8 points - Miner Willy. 8 bit hero and deserves more recognition in this modern age.

7 points - Roy Adams. Operation initiated! Become a video-game icon.

6 points - Daley Thompson. Super Test? Decathlon? Olympic Challenge? Forget Hyper Bill, Daley Thompson is the man.

5 points - Lara Croft. Subject of one of the biggest Video Games April Fools Jokes of ALL TIME.

4 points - Parappa the Rapper. Deserves a "making of" article.

3 points - Duke Nukem. Damn. That's one Doomed Space Marine.

2 points - Lance Boyle. Megarace's host. "I'm Lance Boyle, and you would be too if you were me."

1 point - Guybrush Threepwood. I almost gave this point to T'ai Chi Tortoise, but decided against it, because it was silly.

10. Pacman : my brain instantly goes to this as soon as I think videogame icons. I cant argue against brain.
9. Mario : quickly followed by Mario. Very quickly.
8. Galaga ship : I dont care what anyone says, that ship is damn sexy. Yes, sexy.
7. Wonderboy : the definition of cute.
6. Bub & Bob : almost as cute as Wonderboy but the nappies sealed the deal for Mr. Boy
5. Outrun car : that Ferrari stole the show at every arcade venue in the 80's. Brilliant icon.
4. Guybrush Threepwood : When you think adventure, you think Guybrush.
3. Jimmy / Billy : milliions, yes millions of games had similar bat-wielding heroes after Double Dragon.
2. Space Invader alien : well you have to slot that in somewhere dont you?
1. Sonic : reluctantly Sonic wins a place also, they advertised it into my brain.

special mentions : Strider bloke, Leon Kennedy : my favourite arcade game is Strider, my favourite all-time game is Resident Evil 4 but I realised that although I adored the game, the icons didnt count so much for me. Or at least the other 10 came more quickly to mind.

9) Gorf Gorfian Robot General are whatever they're called my introduction to gaming
Black Orchid Killer Instinct meet my best friends through this game sunk hundreds into using her, still play the Arcade machine in Barry Island and have my name on the scoreboard for her 48 hit combo
