Taito are puzzler kings. So many good ones to choose from.

Has anyone mentioned Gunpey yet? Great series of Wonderswan puzzlers that eventually appeared on DS and PSP. Also loves me a bit of Magical Drop.
I asked for orange. It gave me lemon lime!

Tetris isn't a puzzle game, it's a reaction game. Where is the puzzle?

This is the argument I mentioned earlier ;) It's missing a crucial point though: Why should something that's a perfectly valid puzzle question (here: "What is the best placement of a block I'm given into an existing set of blocks to build complete rows?") suddenly not be called a puzzle just because you're put under extreme time pressure while solving it? No one would consider Speed Chess to be a different game genre than Chess ;)

^ True - whenever this question pops up I always recall Pajitnov himself saying that as he based Tetris on the traditional pentominoes puzzle, he's OK with it being labelled a puzzle game. And who are we to argue with the man himself?

Some genres are dificult to define, and puzzle is definately one of them. Given the example you give for Tetris being a puzzle game, one could argue that Space Invaders is a puzzle game. Do I move left or right, or do I fire my turret? Do I shoot through my bunkers? Do I take the invaders down one column at a time? Do I go for saucers rather than invaders? I would say that the example you give (and also the ones I do) are more strategy than puzzle solving games. Then again pure puzzle games also require startegy - just ask anyone who can solve the Rubiks Cube for example.

Probably no puzzle game since Tetris has had more mainstream impact

It seems everyone is playing it!!

Candy Crush is a very addictive and dangerous game for gamers. Dangerous in that it's free to play but you can spend money to get further so much in fact it's bordering on gambling. I know people that have spend hundreds of pounds on it! If the turn out profit is this much could this be the future of gaming now we have the internet?

Think about it!

I used to really enjoy Bombuzal on the C64. It was unusual in having a 3D and 2D mode - it was much more playable in the latter form. It is also quite distinctly a puzzle game - that is, one in which each level presents a specific problem to solve, one that typically has just a single solution. I also enjoyed X-It, a nicely presented Soko-Ban clone for the Amiga.

If we are talking the looser sort of puzzle game definition that includes Tetris, I think Eggo-mania on the Gamecube deserves a mention.

True, but it's still considered a puzzle game, so in it goes :)

The more recent versions of Tetris have a puzzle mode, where it's definitely not a reaction test, so it should count either way.
