arcade bar coming soon

Post by retrogamingmuseum » Wed Jun 26, 2013 10:05 am

Hey peeps
Tom & I from Retro Game Base in London are (fingers crossed) opening an arcade bar later this year, similar in style to the popular 'Barcade' over in the States. We finally found a location and are in the early stages of negotiation so I don't want to curse anything by giving away too much! We are currently doing a crowd funding campaign for the venture. It won't make or break the new business but would obviously be a great help, and we're offering some nice incentives to investors so are certainly not looking for charity! Check it out here.... Arcade Bar

As soon as things are a bit more official we'll be starting a facebook page and giving away more details, but for now we would love to know what machines you folk would love to see there. So far we have the following dedicated....
Star Wars Trilogy (the sega late 90's one)
SF2 black belt edition
Smash TV (we'll also be running robotron on this cab)
Point Blank
The Invaders
Defender (currently just a shell but will be restored)
Asteroids
Sega Rally upright
as well as a Neo Geo and a few generic machines

Honestly, if you could get a few decent fighter cabinets, mvc1, 2, sf2, tekken, and maybe a setup for fighting tourneys, you would be well in there. Fighting scene is exploding competitvely and not many London hosts as far as competitions go. You may well be the only one.

Having just been in the Barcade in Philly last night, I really hope this comes to fruition!

Strangely these are three BIG wants of mine so hope to get at least one before we open. Could not get on DD all weekend at retro revival. Op Wolf is so much bloody fun and Outrun, well Im really crap at it but its pure style.

We will certainly have a few fighters, and have occasional tournaments, but in all honesty the fighter scene CAN be a little intimidating, and we want to be a really fun venue where people who arent even into gaming will enjoy. The new Heart of Gaming venue in NW London is catering brilliantly to the fighter scene and that dingy old place on Tottenham Court Rd still has quite a few SF cabs and plenty of action, so it will be more of a sideline for us than a focus.

Lucky fella - Cannot wait to go to NYC and check out the Brooklyn bar.

At the very least we'll have Donkey Kong on a 60-in-1 board. We have a Krazy Kong cocktail which we are hoping to restore, as for a dedicated stand up - well if one comes up at the right price.....

Double Dragon is one of the best and most iconic arcade games there is, it's a must have for any arcade.

Casino is closing/is closed :(

I like the idea of a Barcade in the UK, will the machines be on free play?

Dave & Busters in Texas is good fun. Playing Missile Command half plastered is very good.

I've always dreamed of opening an arcade bar, but due to lack of funds it would probably never happen... so I'm happy to see someone else getting one up and running! I've been to Barcadia in Dallas and that was pretty great - lots of retro machines, including a beautiful Tron cab. I'm going back to Texas later this year and will definitely check out Dave & Buster's in San Antonio.

As for cabinets, I think 4 player scrolling fighters are great for the social side of arcade gaming, so I recommend Ninja Turtles, The Simpsons and X-Men!

Other cabs I'd like to see include After Burner, Paperboy, Tron, Donkey Kong, NBA Jam

If you get a Planet Harriers machine I'd definitely visit, but can I bring my own booze as I hate paying those exorbitant London prices!
Suppose you were an idiot; suppose also that you were an XBox One owner. But I repeat myself.

Bit of a rough area it's in though, eh? The Brooklyn one was much nicer...
