Trains in games

Post by pratty » Wed Jun 19, 2013 5:37 pm

Just posted a train related question on the off topic board, and it got me thinking about trains in games.

Best. Worst. Favourite. etc

Three good examples stick out for me, the Goldeneye 64 train level. The early section of Resi Evil Zero, I thought that a really cool idea to start the game on a speeding train. And the train level in Paper Mario on the Gamecube, it had a kind of Murder On The Orient Express feel about it.

I haven't played much of Zelda: Spirit Tracks yet so can't really comment on it, I hear the game is great but the train travel isn't really one of the game's strong points.

Does train games are included?

Got the likes of Locomotion (arcade), Loco(c64), suicide express(c64), Stop the express (zx spectrum) & Iron horse(arcade)

Just remembered a arcade game that include a train & that is Hot chase!

Two of my favourites are:

The Last Express
Broken Sword SotT (that bit near the end, with the toons supporters)

And also:

Beating up punks on a sub-way train in Final Fight :)
Suppose you were an idiot; suppose also that you were an XBox One owner. But I repeat myself.

Yes, pretty much anything train related, a game specifically about trains, or just memory or notable example of a train from a game.

Hell, I'll even stretch things myself and mention the monorail from the begining of Halflife, I can't rememmmber too many parts of the game but for some reason I do remember that, even though not a lot happens, I guess it's probably just the sense of journey. Maybe somebody should start a best intro thread.

There wasn't much to it but I thought the flying golden train in DQIX looked pretty cool.

I loved it when I first played it in 1988 and still love it now 25 years later.

Easy, Zelda Spirit Tracks. Such an under rated gimmick IMO.

EA's The Train:Escape to Normandy for the 8 bits is a nice blend of simulation and action, and another of those underrated classics.

Um, there's Railroad Tycoon and also A-Train, sort of Sim-City with trains, and rather underrated.

Also Locomotion on the C16/C64.

Mario Kart 64 had a train-track on one of the levels as well, which I believe you could use as a shortcut somehow, although I could never quite work it out without becoming train-track-kill.
