Football/Championship Manager dream XI

Post by LAIS » Tue Jun 18, 2013 4:17 am

I'm hoping one day RG will get round to a feature on the Sigames manager series (or on Sigames/Sports Interactive in general) but for now, who are your all time best XI from the CM/FM series? Cult-heroes a plenty, please!

(If you can't name 11, feel free just to list some top signings instead)

The criteria is that they had to have been fantastic signings/players for you in game - I'm not looking for a general world 11 here.
For me it'd have to be...

GK - Tomas Cerny (FM 2012, cost £75k from Hamilton) - No idea where the guy is now, but he was an ace signing for my title-challenging Hearts side. He was rarely awarded less than an 8 for each game.

DL - Gareth Jellyman (CM 99-00) - Can't remember who he played for, just that he was a must-buy nearly every game with me at that time.
DR - Graham Murty (FM 06) - Picked him up on a free transfer for Rangers and he breezed through every game.
DC - Murray Wallace (FM 13, Huddersfield) - Brought the guy in on loan to Wimbledon, and he's been more than solid.
DC - Billy Jones (FM 05, Crewe) - Versatile and cheap. Great combo, with great sell-on value!

ML - Sharbel Touma (AIK, CM 01-02) - A CM legend. Don't need to say much about him!
MR - Kennedy Bakriloglu (Hammarby CM 01-02) - As above! I was gutted the season that he moved to a bigger club and wasn't available on the cheap.
MC - Mark Kerr (Falkirk, CM 01-02) - Picked him up for a mere 40k and sold him on for a few million.
MC - Alex Aguinaga (Necaxa, CM 4) - For a few seasons in this game he was the must-buy for me. Could always rely on good ol' Alex.

FC - Juho Makela (FM 07, Hearts) - I don't know why, but he would score nearly every game for me despite having terrible stats. Liverpool would always buy him for a few million, never play him and he'd end up released onto the Soccer scrapheap.
FC - Kris Boyd (FM 07, Rangers) - A total goal machine for me, again Liverpool would snap him up, never play him and then he'd end up on the transfer list for not very much.

my time to shine

CM 3

GK - Robert Douglas whilst you wait for Richard Wright. At a push? Mark Taylor (sp) from Peterborough.

LB - Jellyman to start but will end up as Silvestre
CB - Clint Hill
CB - Wes Brown
RB - Mike Duff to start as Marek Szmid trains

LM - Etherington but is an unloyal scummer who will go from all but the biggest team but fear not, a retrained Willie Howie from Partick Thistle IS as good
CM - Patric Antonen
CM - Xavi (if you can get him)
RM - Simon Davies hands down but if you can get Haruna Babangida or Jose Mari they are just as good

CF - It doesn't matter who you put with Tonton Mokouko really  But I usually go with Isaak Nkubi or Andrew Mainwaring (is a BEAST)
CF - The KING of champ Tonton Mokouko

Other can haves should you get WP - LM - Catalin Munteanu (sp?) and RM - Floretin Petre (SP?)

Budget team:

GK - Anthony Betteron
LB - Adam Eaton
CB - Carl Laurie
CB - Kevin Mofid
RB - Still Mike Duff
LM -Stefan Ishiki (sp?)
CM - Dime Kudez (sp?)
RM - Paul Bagshaw (or Jackup a'Borg SP?)
CF - Gavin Holligan
CF - Kevin Rapley
CF - Michael Dunwell

Tactics: 2 - 2 - 3 - 3

Peter Prospar (19 year old version worth a mention)

I don't remember enough to be able to start a team without putting some serious thought in. Robbie Keane was world class on CM3 if played behind a striker, Dean Keates (from Walsall, may be Mark actually?) was also class.

God I love footy man talk! you have just sided tracked my entire day.

Dean Keates is deffo up there, I just don't like him, I use him as a cash cow - £100,000 (or wait for a free) from Walsall ...... wait 5 years ..... ManUtd 10m ..... profit :D only play him a couple of times a season too    another instant cash cow is Choi

I remembered a few others that I use if I'm doing a league that doesn't worry about WP:

Leyder Preciado
Landon Donovan
Lopez Rekarte (great defender)
Ivan Cordoba
Felipe
Sorin
Wome (my fave defender IF I can get him)

edit:

I'm currently playing 01/02 season but all this talk of CM3 (my fave version of champ) has started me wanting to play it LOL

Can't remember a definitive starting 11 but here are few go to guys that I can recall

Oscar Ustari - GK or Luca Curci

Def.

Tomas Repka
Igor Tudor
Diego Gavilan
Cosmin Contra

Mid.

Catalan Muntenanu
Kennedy Bakircioglu
Kim kallstrom
Wartan Gharzarian
Johnnier Montano

For.

Andri Sigþorrson
Tonton Zola Moukoko

The vast majority of these lads where cheap as chips and most went for big money later on

Andri Sigþorrson was an absolute legend. I hear he was contacted by many real life managers who wanted him, I don't think he was ever quite as good in real life as in the game!

Quavas Kirk, LA galaxy player, was to near legendary levels in a relatively recent FM game (08?). Scored loads for me with Galaxy and then stormed them in with Chelsea.

In the earlier PSP versions (07 in particular) Matt Derbyshire was a hell of a signing for any English club outside the Prem. Nailed on 30 goals a season.

Norwegian and Danish players always used to be great purchases in CM2. Low costs, high stats.

Going to have a good bash at this but my CM/FM memory is a bit hazy at the moment:

GK: Benoit Costil - Brilliant buy on FM07/FM09, young french goalie from Rennes, always becomes the French national side goalie.

CB: Raphael Varane - Believe he is at Real Madrid now, but a few games ago he could have been brought for a bag of peanuts!

CDM: Sebastian Svaard - Bit of an obscure Scandinavian Midfielder from CM01/02, loads of strength stats and dominate the midfield battles.

ST: Cherno Samba - Whats not to say about this guy, probably brought him on every save for CM01/02, always a top class striker.
ST: Wagner Love - Absolute monster on FM08-FM10.

I completely forgot about Kallstrom!! He was an ace signing, I always picked him up back in the day.

in the football manager stole my life book and a couple of times on the football manager podcast, there has been some stuff about real life clubs that lease the database of them, apparently Everton were one of them. Can't remember any others but I can believe that, slightly off topic but I met the guy that has just left Rotherham Utd having been there academy head and he was saying that even at there academy games they will have scouts from Everton, City and a few other prem teams watching there players, so I imagine the bigger teams keep there eye on the database as its effectively a scouting network.

I'd be interested to know some sort of statistical average on how many players FM has tipped to make it to the top actually have, compared to those tipped who haven't.

Certainly, its analysis on young Scots in the past has been very hit and miss. Derek Riordan was diabolical back in the day as a young FM prospect, for example.
