Track Editors?
Another topic nicked from work:
I'm curious which games included (racing) track editors, having fond memories of these myself and sometimes spending more time creating tracks than racing.
So far, this is what we've come up with:
Championship Sprint (most 8bits, prob 16bit ST & Amiga)
Grand Prix Construction Set (BBC)
Jaguar XJ220 (Mega CD)
Kik-Start 2 (C64)
Lotus 3 (Amiga)
Micro Machines Turbo Tournament '96 (Mega Drive)
Moto Racer 2 (PS1)
Racing Destruction Set (C64)
Rally Speedway (C64, Atari 800XL)
Scalextric (C64)
Sno-Cross Championship Racing (DC)
Tommi Makinen Rally (PS1)
Trackmania (PC)
V-Rally 2 (PS1) aka Test Drive: V-Rally (DC)
War Cars Construction Kit (Firebird - Spectrum, C64, CPC)
World Grand Prix (Master System)
XTreme Racing (Amiga)
Now I know there are more than that, but for the life of me I can't remember today. Any more for any more?

Rally Speedway on the C64 was a brilliant two player top down racing game that we used to make loads of track on.
And as mentioned above, Xtreme Racing was another. I made a track of a real indoor track in Durham after racing there one day. I got about the same lap times as in real life too. I did a few tracks on that, it was a brilliant game.
Stunt Car Racer Special Edition on the Amiga. Oh, wait, no, that was a dream I had...

Re:
I'll not count those as most games will let you add content with third party tools and a bit of knowlege. Avatar editing seems to be far more common even now, but track editing is relatively rare as a built in feature.michaelf wrote:Almost on the same theme is Skidmarks (Amiga), which could let you design your own vehicles in the 3D rendering app Imagine, IIRC.

Interesting, I don't remember that one. What platform's it on? The Bird Sanctuary doesn't specify.merman wrote:War Cars Construction Kit from Firebird

Re:
War Cars is C64 and Spectrum (I think) - may have just been a budget re-release on Firebird rather than an original, I'd have to check. And it's CHAMPIONSHIP Sprint that comes with an editor, not the original Super Sprint...Antiriad2097 wrote:Interesting, I don't remember that one. What platform's it on? A little research shows War Cars to be available on Speccy, C64 and CPC. Doesn't look especially exciting though...
Champ Sprint is entirely forgettable based on the reviews I've just read. 24% in Zzap! Oh dear.

Lotus 3 I wouldn't say really has an editor.
Virtually every PC game can be edited. All the Papyrus and EA Nascar and F1 titles for a start.]
Nothing like bombing a Nascar round 1960s Silverstone online with 15 mates.

Re:
But which of them come with an in built editor that's user friendly, rather than just dev tools outside the game?Dudley wrote:Virtually every PC game can be edited.

If the dev tools are good, what's the real difference?Antiriad2097 wrote:But which of them come with an in built editor that's user friendly, rather than just dev tools outside the game?Dudley wrote:Virtually every PC game can be edited.

Rally speedway on the Atari 800xl was probably the one I used most as a kid.(I used to love that game , I have the later C64 port now but its not the same somehow!, possibly as I cant race my brother!)
It played similarly to micro machines (in that you had to race the other player \"off\" the screen )
The track designer was pretty quick and simple to use and actuually allowed you to create tracks that were fun!
