Best 3-4 Multiplayer Games on any platform?

Post by rightsidebrain » Sat Apr 27, 2013 12:25 pm

Hey so my friends and I are having a year-long games tournament. We all go to someone's house, choose around 5 games and record the results (3pts for 1st, 2pts for 2nd and 1pt for 3rd).

So far we have played...

- Mario Kart 64 (N64)
- Goldeneye (N64)
- Fifa 13 (PS3)
- Diddy Kong Racing (N64)
- Bomberman Ultra (PS3)
- Micro Machines 2 Turbo Tournament (Mega Drive)
- Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (PS3)
- Mario Kart Wii (Wii)

Between us we have...

- Playstation 3
- Playstation 2
- Nintendo 64
- Nintendo GameCube
- SNES
- NES
- Mega Drive
- Wii

We were also thinking about setting up a MAME Emulator and playing some arcade games.

So does anyone have any suggestions for good offline multiplayer games for any of these systems (preferably games that all three of us can play together simultaneously)?

Circuit Breakers (PS1)
James Bond: Nightfire, personally I prefer it to Goldeneye - PS2
One of the Smash Bros games
Smackdown: HCTP (PS2) or No Mercy (N64)

Maybe NSMB on Wii, I think there is some kind of competitive ranking but it may not be ideal for your tournament, it may also damage your friendships, it can be really funny though.

I'll always go for Warlords on the Atari 2600.
Forsaken on the N64 is also a particular favourite of mine.

Is this an inclusive community spirited thread about the best 3-4 player games on any platform or a thread solely about games we are asked to recommend to the OP for the systems he personally happens to own?

Some good calls so far, I'll concur some of them as well as add a few:

Wii Sports Bowling
Goldeneye 007 (Wii)
F-Zero GX
Worms (2D or 3D)
Mario Kart: Doubledash!!
Mario Tennis (N64 or Gamecube)
Timesplitters 2/Future Perfect
Warioware Inc (Gamecube, has quite a few retro mingames)
WWF No Mercy
Mario Party (I recommend 2, 4 and 5)
Super Smash Bros. Melee/Brawl
Super Monkey Ball 2 (my mates and I would do something we called "The Monkey Olympics" )
Pratty's trade list, updated (May 2019)!

Why don't you ask him?

I'm happy to hear any and all suggestions, regardless of whether or not I currently have the capability to play them.

Great idea, a multiplayer night. Mario Party is a good one to add- If there's enough time. Can be a long winded game though, more a fun family one for a rainy afternoon.

I'd start by having a variety of genres. Pick the best Racer, FPS, Sports, Cart style racer, one on one fighter etc.

One I'd always include is Monkey Ball though, it has some terrific mini games for a multi player tournament that make for some fun multiplayer bashes. :)

Yeah, someone else mentioned Monkey Ball. I've never actually played it, but I just looked at a couple of videos on YouTube and it looks classic! As does "Mario Party", although I gather there are quite a few of them? Is there one version you'd recommend in particular?

I actually used to really like "Fusion Frenzy" on the XBOX for multiplayer action. Aside from "Mario Party", are there any other games like that which are chock full of mini games?
