Impossible Games

Post by Treguard » Fri Apr 26, 2013 7:32 am

Been playing back through some old games I thought were difficult back in the day, seeing if with me now being older, wiser, more experienced etc. whether I'd now be able to conquer them. Some of them I've succeeded with, but some of them are still completely unbeatable! I'm not talking difficult, I'm talking having game breaking bugs that stop you finishing the game. Katt Trapp on the Amstrad is the current worse offender- once you reach the Alps level you can't walk more than a few inches without getting trapped in an infinite cycle of death until all your lives run out. I'm not even going to get started on Knightmare. Anyone else have experiences like this?

Not sure if its true but I remember reading that Dennis the Menace on he Amiga was deliberately shipped with an impossible jump because the game wasn't finished. A later patch fixed the jump and added the remaining levels and was made available on magazine coverdisks.

Impossible Mission by Epyx!

Seriously though the NTSC 7800 version has a bug in it that actually stops you from ever completing the game!

It was fixed for the PAL version but it's still bloody hard.

Considering the TMNT live in the sewers - how can it kill you for being IN the water?

Airwolf on the Spectrum - couldn't get past screen 2 then, can't get past it now... Someone, somewhere thought that was a good idea..

Edit: It might help if I read the thread properly.... Gee

I heard that there was a bug in Kingdoms of Amalur, that people can get that makes the game impossible to finish. And then the studio went under, so there was no chance of a patch.

same situation with vampire bloodlines then
during the end game you encounter a vampire on the street and tigger a cutscene which then crashes the game

to get around that you need to traverse via the sewer

good thing there are fan patches
hey wait ! i got a new complaint !

Silent Bomber on the PS1. The game crashes when you exit the room after defeating the second to last boss. I checked a few forums and it appears to be a widespread issue with most copies of the game. You can overcome it if you beat him enough times and persist but considering how mental hard he is, i gave up after the third time it happened.

I can't speak for the PC version but the NES version has the very same jump and layout and the way you jump it is to tap the jump button so you don't bang your head on the top and tumble into the water, instead sail over the the platform in a weird way.

lucky for me that never happened then

pretty sure Capcom vs SNK Cardfighters on DS has a gamebreaking bug at the end of the game. A mate at work told me one of the Discworld games had a bug on PC that was never patched???

Yes, they did a recall on CFC DS and released a fixed version.

Tales of Eternia on PSP has a freezing bug. Again, a fixed version was released later.

Oh f**k! I hated/loved/hate/love this game. Growing up I spent hours, and hours, and hours trying to beat it...and never did. I used to think it was just broken all over but my Mate marc's brother beat it so that made me feel a little bit worse
