do you block ?

Post by snowkatt » Fri Apr 19, 2013 4:02 am

in beat em ups do you block ?

i dont block often or at all usually i just back away
and my style adapted to that mostly i just try to avoid or back away or compensate by being very agressive or use
hit a move tactiqes
move in land a few hits and be gone again

most of thsi styl eof play was actually moulded by using chun li on sf 2 ce
i only had a 3 button controller so i had no abaility to pause the game and the game usually defaulted to kicks and chun li had the best kicks in the game and it went from there
hey wait ! i got a new complaint !

You need to learn how to block properly in SF, especially if you are to avoid cross ups, fireball traps etc.

Blocking also leads to openings. Block an unsafe move and you can counter during their recovery frames

reversals are better than blocking, some of the counter moves from VF5 are amazing.

i never did actually
and i tend to come out reasonably well despite off it
i am just extremley agressive with rapid fire kick attacks and moving out of harms way
when and if i block its usually a reflex on my part or the game blocks on its own

off course i tend to usually choose characters that are nimble and have good kick attacks ( ie why i usually default to chun li )
hey wait ! i got a new complaint !

Important to block in any fighting game, really. Though it depends, in some of them dodging can be just as important. I mostly play Arc's games (GG, Blazblue, Persona 4 Arena) and other similar fighters (such as Melty Blood and whatever) and I have always had the tendency to dodge things really often. Even against very high level players I can generally get away with this as my reaction speed is really high, which can get some very entertaining reactions from some of them.

Well, entertaining for me, anyway, not as much for them.

Though, it DOES make it more hilarious if you do manage to dodge stuff with someone slow.

I do think faster characters tend to just be more fun though. I'm not always patient enough for the slow guys, though I still use them.

The only game in which I don't is VF3 where I favour the side step because it leaves an easy opening.

In WotEF, blocking is the only way to win against someone halfway decent.
