I never played them back in the day, but playing through Syphon Filter last year was a horrendous experience. The controls didn't work for me and I honestly thought it was a dreadful game. Compared to MGS, I think it pales in comparison (although it does have some good ideas).

The only other entry in the series I have played is Logan's Shadow on PSP - I thought that one was brilliant, and a shame it's not (currently) compatible with the Vita.

Only ever played the first one and enjoyed it. It has not aged well though.

only played the first but i used to really like it and played it through quite a few times,i went back through it not so long ago and it's not as good as my memory of it.i think the reason i didn't bother with any of the follow up games is because i did find the first a little tough.

it took me ages to take out the final boss,i had completely forgotten how to beat him

The first PSP game is great, possibly the first fps to really nail it on the system with tight controls.

I played the first Syphon Filter back in the day. It was ok I guess. I might have played the second one. The main memories I take from it are of it being pretty ropey with the visuals (I seem to remember the main character running like he was busting for a pony) and I've got vivid flashbacks of a terribly long escort mission involving a doddery old fart who might have been a scientist.

If I ever hit a lull in my current gaming schedule I might get the Playstation out and give the game an hour or so for old time's sake.

Played a bit of the third and it's good. The PSP ones though are very good games in my opinion and finished them both. I really liked what Bend has done with those 2 releases and they kept a fast pace also for Resistance: Retribution.
I'd recommend those two as someone who didn't really play the first Playstation ones.

I really liked SF 1-3 at the time, they were among my favourite PS1 games, then the saga went down the drain with the PS2 outings.

The first games have some excellent level design, levels like Rhoemer's Hideout in SF 1 are awesome :) I agree they haven't aged very vell though, I've tried them again a few months back (got them on PSN) and they can be very frustrating, and the control method I thought excellent at the time is not that good...

Anyway, SF 1,2 and 3 remain three excellent PS1 games.

The two PSP games are ace. Stories are ok, settings are good, pacing works, controls totally nailed, great presentation. Nothing better than shooting someone with an exploding dart and then detonating it a few seconds later :)
