Are there any short JRPG's?

Post by samhain81 » Wed Mar 27, 2013 9:06 am

Are there many?

Spanning most generations from 16bit onwards, I really want to pile together a list of jrpg's to play, which don't take an entire life to complete. When considering work, and family matters right now, I don't have the time to invest in such big rpgs when there are so many games I want to play in the short time that I have to play them.

So please, if there are any, could you be so kind and recommend me some shortish rpg's I can play. Maybe between 10-30 hours? Probably few and far between with that time frame, but thought I'd ask :)

The Last Story (Wii). Not really that long at all by JRPG standards. 30 hours maybe, depending on how much messing about/exploring you do...I can't remember my clear time but it was short by JRPG standards and it still had all the story, music and cool combat that I wanted.
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

Penny Arcade Aventures : On the Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode 3 is a short-and-sweet game in the style of SNES JRPGs.

Chrono Trigger can probably be finished in 20-30 hours.

Chrono Trigger and Legend of legaia? Good to know chaps.

Should anyone care, Luciennes Quest on the 3DO takes about 20hours.

Not games I've personally played but I'm led to believe Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (SNES) and Threads of Fate (PS1) are quite short. Mind you, Threads of Fate is more of an Action-RPG, and was only released in Japan & America.

Any of the Mario RPGs (well the ones I've played anyway)
The World Ends With You
FF: Crisis Core
The early Pokemon games
Earthbound and Mother 3

That's only to finish the main story though.

Yeah, Mystic Quest is pretty short. It's also a very easy game (it's designed to be), so keep that in mind as well; if you need a challenge, you *wont* find it there. It's still very good though.... even I loved that one, and I normally dislike easy games. Also has the best freaking soundtrack ever.

I also second Evolution on the DC. That one was really good, and really underrated.

I absolutely loved Evolution. Still remains one of my most cherished rpgs :)
