Memorable Continue Screens? (A Lost Art??)

Post by Lettuce » Thu Mar 07, 2013 7:12 am

Something you don't really see much of now a days and always stays vivid in my memory as a child (especially arcade games) was the continue screen! The impact they used to have on my younger self was immense, and think that its an art that has been lost to time with hardly any modern day games having anywhere near the imagination of the older games or any continue screens at all!!.......the only 1 i can think of is Double Dragon Neon of recent times.

So what is your favorite continue screen, for me it was between 2 either Final Fight or Ninja Gaiden. I went for......

Never noticed before that both Guy and Cody are tied with rope but Hagger is tied with chains.

So what is your favorite continue screen in a game??

Mine is the one from Ninja Gaiden where the saw blade slowly comes down.

As seen here in the wonderful Atari Lynx version:

Beat me to it.  I've still not quite mentally recovered from seeing that for the first time, the continue screen in the original N64 Mystical Ninja is worth a mention as well:

Don't know if it counts, but the sequences with Death in Conker's Bad Fur Day are funny.

What happens if you continue?

Trying to remember, I know on Cadillacs and Dinosaurs you punch the guy, on Final Fight a dagger puts the fuse out, but I can't remember what (if anything) happens on Shadow Warriors/Ninja Gaiden?
