Two very good-looking isometric 3D arcade-adventures; Fairlight and Head over Heels. Probably best-looking on the Amstrad CPC-464, though the ZX Spectrum 48K versions were more widely known.

Fairlight was an action/quest set in a castle full of orc guards and ghostly monks, Head over Heels was more of a platform game.

This was early 3D platforming with a fixed viewpoint, so that 2D sprites and textures could be used rather than complicated 3D polygonal projections. Fairlight was unique in that it used (2D) lines and textured fills to draw the walls and floor of each room - there was a hack that let you actually watch each scene being repainted when you entered a room. Most modern games would be doing that in 24-bit colour several million times a second.

Combat (Atari 2600)
Space Invaders (liked the Atari version more than the arcade game)
Pac Man
Scramble (played rocket raid more than the actual arcade game)
Chuckie Egg
Manic Miner
Jet Set Willy (its a pity the miner willy series was not developed further like the Mario games)
Penguin Adventure (that was a konami MSX game)
Nemesis (gradius)
knight lore (although later games were sometimes better this was revolutionary)
Super Mario Bros
Super mario Bros. 3
legend of zelda

If you are including 16 bit systems

Dungeon Master (released first on Atari ST)
Super Mario World
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Street Fighter 2
