Playing Retro Handhelds In Public

Post by Flint » Fri Mar 01, 2013 7:01 am

I just saw a middle-aged man sitting in his car outside a hairdresser playing on an original gameboy (I assume he was waiting for his wife), it was a sight to warm my heart on a cold March morning.

It made me wonder if anybody here would whip out their old handhelds in public? Or are you too embarrassed to even play a more modern system?

Was on a coach a while back with a bunch of kids. One kid had a PS Vita whilst another had a Neo Geo Pocket Colour. Guess which one drew the biggest crowd of onlookers...

Precisely why iPhone and its clones are so great. One can play games on it on a bus, train, airport departure lounge, etc, and not feel like you're an overgrown kid.

I'll use one of my Gameboy Micro's quite often. The more people that look the better - I wear it as a badge of honour :)

The Micro is a godsend at airports/aeroplanes.

I once whipped out my original Atari Lynx on a train.

10 mins later and some juvenile scote asked "what the f**k is that piece of sh1t"

I told him it was an advanced piece of GPRS technology

I don't think he believed me.

I use my swan crystal all the time, and people ask me what it is. Its great to see that.

But still, nothing beats seeing an original gameboy being played. Thats respect, no matter what age.,

Plus if someone trys to pinch it off you it is a great weapon.

You might break a 3DS of Vita

I was drunk on the way back from scummy Villa park many many moons ago and whipped something out on the train, it didn't end well.

Played Sonic on the NGPC while on the bus not more than a couple of months ago.
Was going along just fine - then the bus went through a tunnel...
