This one is easy to answer: Super Mario 3.

Chuckie Egg deserves a mention at this point.

Bubble Bobble (c64) - almost perfect gaming when in two player mode.

If I have to say only one then it's Soulless on the C64. Platforming doesn't get better on the c64. If this was before I discovered Soulless I'd have said Impossible Mission.

Kirby's Adventure, for me. Since it was one of the last NES game, it really felt like they had pulled out all the stops. It almost felt like a culmination of everything the NES went through, highs and lows, for one final, showstopping game, and for that, even though I don't have much nostalgia for the NES, makes it my favorite 8-bit platformer. I also like it for being quite a bit harder than most Kirby games, which is something the series has never been GREAT at.

I have a soft spot for Manic Miner. There was an amazing feeling of accomplishement when you finally cracked a previously unbeateable level and would wait with bated breath for the new one.

Has to be Auf Wiedersehen Monty for me. I know the purists will say the first two were better, but I think they nailed it with that one. Cracking tune on the Speccy 128k version too.

Monster in Mayhem land on the C64. I really did enjoy this game, not only was the gameplay was good, but also the graphics were excellent for it's time. And I think at the 8 bit era the only game to have a 100% review if I remember correctly.
