Oh god so many possabilities! Anyway;

PC Freespace 2: Main Menu theme http://youtu.be/dorquNKYrYo
- honestly though every single track in the game does it for me.

PC C&C Tiberium Sun: Valves http://youtu.be/0OutQ4qqxB0

PC Quake 2: Descent into Cerberon http://youtu.be/WojopwjrsnY

There are shitzillions more ofcourse and I care little as to how these compaire in the wider world. ~2000ish was by far my favourite period of gaming, my first year or so of PC gaming when it was all new and fresh and I hadn't gotten all cynical and jaded about games and those three tracks just resonate with me.
I haven't played any of those games in several years but they're all locked into my mind and I recall any of them with no effort at all.

Fantastic cover tape, probably the best for me. I would love to remember what I did with mine, lost it years ago. Can you remember the dodgy sounding Sega tape they gave away, to advertise the master system?

Yep, the OutRun/720 audio cassette with C+VG plus Batty with Your Sinclair were probably my favourite ever cover-mounted cassette tapes. :D

I don't recall that other one you've mentioned though. Then again, I only bought C+VG occasionally.

1. Outrun - (Arcade) - Magical Sound Shower
2. Led Storm - (Amiga) - All, but especially the in-between levels music
3. Delta (C64) - Main Theme

I think from the number of comments the music from Outrun is something special.

Monty On The Run - C64
Quazatron - Spectrum
Magical Sound Shower - Outrun - Arcade

I would've picked a couple of Joe Satriani tunes that appeared in an F1 game on the PS1, but I felt that would be kinda cheating.

I've had a long hard think about this - and every time this question comes up, I always hum 3 C64 tunes in my head and list them. No matter what, one tune will always be top of the list (Delta (in game) as that to me is the most amazing piece of C64 music ever composed.
But then I decided to awaken my Amiga days - and hit Youtube :D

1. Delta (C64) In game over 11 mins long! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FB3WNyDuAxQ
2. Parallax (C64) Title music over 10 mins long! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igVxjCecmEg
3. Trap (C64) Hidden Trap demo in game! 10 mins long... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GBQwz35XWo

Ok, so I just spent 2 hours listening to Amiga and C64 music on you tube

I just find the C64 has something hauntingly good and just cannot be beaten for Chip music. I love the Amiga and think the music by the likes of Allister Brimble is amazing... but it just aint SID!

Go on, open another tab, click on one and listen to it whilst browsing the forum......

Difficult to list only three...

In no order:

Moon Over the Castle (Gran Turismo's, i like them all but especially 5)
Metal Squad (Thunder Force 4)
Magical Sound Shower (Outrun 2006 C2C)

Hmm, they all start with M ... curious. :)

If I come back in a day or two, it'll probably be a different list.

Unfortunately I can't put links to Youtube on here as i'm in work and filtered to death so you'll have to do some good old fashioned searching, I guess everyone has heard Magical Sound Shower so at least try the other two :)

Wayy to hard to choose, so going to split into retro/modern

8/16-bit

Fantastic Dizzy - NES - First Level - This song gets your so happy to be playing 8bit and games in general, I could listen to it all day/every day.

Revenge of Shinobi - MD - China Town - A quintessential peice of mastered 16 - bit music by Yuzo Koshiro

Street Fighter 2 - SNES - End Credits - Makes me feel like a child again with this song. Just a happy song

32bit onwards

Halo 1 - XBOX - Brothers in Arms - My favourite song from all Halos

Shenmue 1 - DC - Memories of Distant Days - Where would my list be without a Shenmue track. This song, as the title of it even suggests, brings me back to the days when I was playing Shenmue 1 after school. Quite a fitting song title I guess.

Unreal Tournament - PC/DC - Opening music - This song personifies my teens, and my first experiences with pc online gaming. Still wont be beaten in terms of sheer enjoyment.
