Games for Mentalists

Post by Lindopski » Mon Jan 22, 2007 6:49 am

On my travels through gaming history - hey I have been playing since orange grandstand paddles machine days.
I have always taken a liking to games that I and my brother describe as Mentally Ill games

On this front I am very fond of

Playstation - Jumping Flash
Sega Saturn -Parodius
Dreamcast - The south park party game
Nintendo's - Warioware games

and to lesser extent e.g not quite so mental just a bit touched
Geometry wars

are there any other games I am missing out on for pretty much any system that you would consider mental

the more drugged out and psychadelic the better , but even just straight nuts is fine.

please recommend
Retro when it wasnt cool

The list is neverending and depends what you term as 'mental' - but I propose

Tempest ( you are a weird triangular shape, stuck on the rim of a 3d geomatric shape, shooting dots and trying to erase other squiggly lines from sliding up longer lines and 'killing' you.)

Mr Do (You are, what can only be described as 'a clown', seemingly stuck underground with a ball that when you throw it, can kill. You can dig through the ground and, lo and behold, dislodge cherries that happen to be there with you. If you eat a cherry, you get 'points' whatever they are.)

Manic Miner (You are a small man stuck in a system of twenty caves. You can only walk or jump left and right and toilets, amoebas and triangles are attempting to take away one of your lives. How you got these 'extra' lives anyway is a complete mystery. Maybe you are some sort of God ?)

As requested by the Tw@t himself - his account was Hijacked and has had a change of password.

Sorry Dexter!

Bishi Bashi Special - PS1
Trio The Punch - Never Forget Me... - Arcade
Cho Aniki - SNES

Definitely Wario Ware too as you mentioned, Smooth Moves is absolutely nuts.

Freak Out on the PS2 - demonic scarves, wha...!?

Amped 3, 360. The loading screens are frankly bonkers and in most cases hilarious.

Dynamite Headdy was a bit on the 'special' side, too.

Mad graphics, 'plot' and soundtrack complete with superb gameplay.

Killer 7

I've not played this but the impressions I've read just leave me thinking WTF.

When I saw this thread the first game I thought of was Parodius, so I'm not surprised to see it mentioned in the first post.

Anything by Kenta Cho at ABA games, his shooters for the pc are bonkers but in a good way. A list of his stuff is here:

All of the games have that retro/vector/rez style and have pretty cool techno soundtracks, plus they are stupidly addictive! :D

Right im of to have another blast of 'Torus Trooper' - try extreme level, stage 9....with plenty of coffee....your eyes bleeeeeeeeed!!!!

Has the retro gamer mag ever done an article on this guy?...would be sweet :)
