when do you consider a game finished

Post by snowkatt » Sun Jan 13, 2013 7:59 am

because there are these days so many secrets to find
collectibles to find
secrets to unlock and so forth a lot of people try to 100 % or unlock all the achievements
personally for myself once i played through the story mode and have seen the credits roll by the game is over for me
i might go back to certain levels i enjoyed a lot
or replay the game if i like it a lot but other then that the game is over and done with on to the next one

with games that are in effect unfinishable ( racing games beat em ups ) i usually just see if there is a champion ship to finish
but they can be tricky let alone the open world games ( who usually have a story line )

so what do you do ?
hey wait ! i got a new complaint !

Once I've seen the credits, that's enough for me. I don't think I've ever played the same game through twice.

I play them until I get bored, but RPG's have me coming back for more, especially games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim. There just so many different ways you can complete the game, plus places to visit that you didn't visit the first time around.

Then there those games that have un-lockable items or game mechanics that you can take with you on your second play though. Like on Resident Evil 5 with the different guns and un-limited bullets, but you need to complete the game first before you can use them fully.

I know a lot of players on the current consoles now only consider a game 'complete' when they've unlocked all the achievements or trophy's. That's never been much of interest of mine though.

When I've had enough. If I don't finish it, I don't really care if I've had enough of it.

These days? These days I play old games.

A game is finished when I've finished it.

same here. Replaying in a different set of clothes or at a different dificultyu level doesn't do it for me.

Mafia had an interesting ending though - once you'd completed the story, enormous ramps and suchlike appeared around the city allowing you to have a bit of fun; not for me though.

If I've finished the main game, single player campaign or whatever, then I'd say I've finished that game if someone asked me.

But that's not the full story because, like others have said, there may be replay value. I may want to have some fun playing certain sections again, perhaps improving on scores/times, there may be new difficulties or tasks unlocked, some dlc, or a different way to play the game.

I know I'd quite like to play Walking Dead again and choose different options as I go through the story. So although I could say I've finished in one sense, I haven't entirely finished with that game.

When the credits roll - there's very few games I've ever bothered 100%ing.

When I was younger and had more time I used to try and do everything but these days when the credits roll thats it for me unless its something like Skyrim and I get sidetracked by side quests. But things like shooting pigeons in GTA 4 I never do.

i would say when the main story/game is done then it's finished but if i really enjoy a game i will happily try to do everything.

When i reach the end level/animation/end of game message thats it.

I'm not one of these people who has to get 100% in a game, or get '3 stars' on every level. Just complete the last level and i'm happy

I loved Vice City but i wasnt one of those people who had to find every hidden object and get 100%. I just finished the final mission, then moved onto the next game. Dont get some of these OCD gamers!
