"THAT" bit

Post by DPrinny » Mon Jan 07, 2013 7:38 am

Inspired by hour talk and hatred of the generator bit.

That one bit of a game that stops you from replaying

Zelda Swyward sword - Those flying bits
Zelda twilight princess - Horse bis
Halo - That end and all driving sections
Tenchu Z - That pursuit mission
Duke Nukem forever - Generator, big breast boss

Dead Rising 2 - The bit with the fight in the toilets with one of the first psychos.

If you haven't got the right weapons at the time, it's RIDICULOUSLY hard. Well, I say that, but 2 or 3 attempts put me off too much.

Dead Rising 2. This is a really good, challenging game.... right up until the "super zombies" show up. Yeah. I'm supposed to get a braindead AI survivor through THAT? You may as well ask me to do an escort mission through a field of flaming chainsaws. Great example of "fake difficulty". Enjoyed the game up to that point.... outright SOLD it after hitting that spot, it was THAT bad.

I never found those much of a bother, well at least in comparison to the couple of stealth sections in the original Mafia game which managed to be more frustrating (especially as you can only take a couple of hits before you die so you had to do them absolutely perfectly, no checkpoints either). But now you mention it, around chapter 3 of Mafia had a mandatory race which was a bastard to play originally on the PC, bloody tough to beat the AI drivers plus if you rolled over you basically lose on the spot as your character dies. Thankfully this was patched to introduce some extra difficulty levels to make things slightly easier.

Anything that involves QTEs but especially Resi 4 with it's insta-deaths and nonskippable talkie bits. Except God of War an Vanquish as they don't expcet you to be a frickin' ninja.

oh god qte's
i hate qte's
each and every one off them i already didnt like resident evil 4 very much
the qte's are a millstoen round its neck that drag it down ( but unfortunally havent drowned the damn thing yet because 4 is where the series started its slide down in to the miserable wreck that is 6 )
hey wait ! i got a new complaint !

Dead Rising 2 is the only game I've ever traded in because it became too frustrating to play any further (as opposed to finishing it and no longer wanting it etc.)

If I'm reading the thread correctly it's a question on what's stopping me from replaying a game, not stop playing because I'm either stuck, or annoyed?

In that case then the end bits of Crackdown 2 have stopped me replaying the series, as has the memory of the constant immaturity of Saints Row 3 put me off replaying that franchise. I even have DLC for SR3 (The Trouble with Clones) that I've yet to play, and maybe never even will.

That's a sad problem, since I rate the Saints Row series above the GTA series, with the sheer mightiness that is Saints Row 2 as one of my best games of all time.

Yeah that racing bit was crazy. Also earlier in the same level you had to get the car to the racetrack in a low time without any damage - very dificult.

There were a couple of bits in Mafia 2 where you had to drive at stupidly high speeds to get to a certain place in tome (the gasoline was one) but there were other more dificult ones (I think in one of the add-on packs). I guess part of it was getting the player to be familiar with the layout of the city, but still annoying

As for the stealth bits (iirc) it was always possible to take an alternative method and simply shoot everyone; nuch much more dificult, but also much more satisfying!

Both AMfia games are simply superb!
