XBOX LIVE Security Proofs

Signed in to LIVE on my XBOX today after a break and found a message about 'Proofs' in my inbox. Apparently I needed to set 2 different ways for them to send codes to me. Christ, what a nuisance. And the 'text' option just...Does. Not. Work. :x

I could understand if my account was set with credit card info, but it isn't - I just buy MSP vouchers at a shop when I want some. I did recently set up a Jap account and buy some DLC, so maybe that triggered it? In the end I created 2 Hotmail accounts on the spot and used them!

Anyone else go through this kerfuffle?

The idea of the 'proofs' is to insure you can easily retrieve your account should you forget the login information. All you need is either an alternative email address or a phone number. You can also add a 'Trusted PC' to your proofs.

Problem is many users forget their email address or password. This is an little extra security for your Xbox LIVE account.

I see, so it's optional then? Bloody thing didn't sound like it. Ah, whatever, just felt like a pain.

That's a GOOD thing - look at the PS3 account hack fiasco!

My account was logged into a year ago, £40 worth of points spent and they tried to buy MORE with my expired credit card details. The more security the better afaic.
