Help identifying a game

Post by eucrow » Thu Dec 13, 2012 8:46 pm

I come to you at my wits end. For years ive been trying to remember the name of a game I played as a child, and it just wont come back. If anybody could point me in the right direction I would be eternally grateful.

All I remember is that it was a PC adventure game (point and click adventure im fairly sure), in the top down perspective. In the opening of the game a village is destroyed (or possibly the protagonist returns to find that it had been destroyed previous to the beginning of the game), I also remember large beetles and potentially other huge insects. In my vague recollection there seemed to be some puzzle in this village that needed to be solved using/dealing with magic. It would have been sometime mid 90s that I would have played it, with graphic on par with that time.

I know this is not much to go on but if anybody has any ideas I would appreciate it so much.

You'd probably want to do a google images search for "Diablo clone" and see what comes up. Maybe the pictures might jog your memory a bit.

There's a list here that some enterprising forumgoers were compiling, trying to list every Diablo clone they can think of. Sadly there's no images, so you'll need to look and search them separately or see if any name rings a bell.

You're welcome. Pretty obscure game, especially outside of PC gaming circles ;) I remember playing the demo which came with a game called Thunderscape and quite enjoyed it. I actually own it as part of a compilation but never gave the full game a try.

Entomorph was excellent. Might have to dig around the loft.... I know it is up there somewhere!

Indeed. I remember playing the demo and having to buy it. I had that problem back then though - love nearly every demo so bought too many games
