The potential is there, and the intro is top notch, but it's gonna take a HELL OF A LOT to beat Streets Of Rage II.

Looks rubbish, we already have a Streets of rage remake that betters 2.

Turning it into something that looks like a modern Fighting force is not good

Does look awesome. Shame it was cancelled. I don't think it could top II, but it would have been an enjoyable entry.

I think it is missing something compared to the original three games, pretty sure it is the 3D perspective that is wrong. Like DPrinny said the "remake" was really good, they should do something like that and keep the original style and music, but use the new technology to enhance it all.

Funny you should say that.. Core Design originally developed Fighting Force as Streets of Rage 4 on the Saturn as an exclusive to that console. They fell out with Sega mid development and ended up making Fighting Force.

Then due to some publishing issues we never got a Saturn release of Fighting Force. Its really a shame how it all went sour as Core were staunch supporters of the Mega Drive and Mega CD and nearly the Saturn (see Tomb Raider)

Back to this prototype, I think the genre was almost dead anyway, although I quite enjoyed Die Hard Arcade

I think this actually looks pretty good. Captures a lot of the style/spirit of the originals. Obviously needed a lot of work yet but not bad at all.

Apart from the music being totally wrong (rock music, really!?) it looked promising.

I think the 3D looks good but it should still be kept to a side on perspective.

Still, after the excellent Streets of Rage remake by Bomber games its going to be pretty hard to beat that!

I would quite liked to have given this a go, I think it looked pretty promising. Shame.

Full disclosure: I work at Ruffian Games...

Not sure how the footage leaked - or even what I can say now that it's out - but this isn't a game that was in production, so it wasn't "cancelled"...

The video is footage of a demo that we put together in about 6-8weeks, as part of a pitch in to Sega. We were proposing a modern remake of SoR, aimed at XBLA/PSN, full 3D but with a dynamic camera so there'd be side scrolling sections, sections from behind, etc. etc.

The project wasn't greenlit, which was a shame, as we really enjoyed working on it. And I've no idea how it's out in the wild now, but it's kinda cool that people get to see it :D

It looks bloody awful (no offense)

I really don't think Streets of Rage needs a remake though, SOR 2 still stands as one of the best brawlers of all time.

Plus, the recent Double Dragon Neon was a perfect re-imagining of the genre. I can't see how anyone could top it..

I really liked the background environments but the rest was poor. Animation and character movement was terrible. Still for 6-8 weeks that is impressive work.

Streets of Rage 4? Easy, just make it on the Yakuza engine.
