Yeah each to their own. The game felt noticeably less creative in the BTO levels for me.

Also, to add to must play list for new buyers: ZombiU - its engaging, inventive, atmospheric and difficult, and shows the touchscreen off really well. Had a blast playing it, the best game on the console for me and you can pick it up for under a tenner.

I have no problem with hard games if they are enjoyable, I just stopped enjoying mario and only started seeing all the flaws. I really dont see the point of having stars in each level, making them optional then putting blocks in the way if you don't have enough. Having bonus levels that give away stars and suits that make you invincible just indicate that the difficulty curve doesn't work. Nintendo might argue they are trying to appeal to a wider audience but you end up with a jack of all trades.

The biggest problem with Mario 3D world is Mario. I know nintendo fans argue that the games always have new ideas even if they have mario, zelda etc in the title. While i agree 3D world had some very good ideas it felt weighed down by 20 years of detritus and expectation of what a mario game should be. It feels like an old car that has been modded over the years, new engine, new tyres, new suspension etc and each new addition makes it feel a little better, but at some point it must be easier to just buy a new car.

I should add that 3D world is by no means a bad game, probably not my thing, but I would guess a large percentage of non nintendo gamers would feel the same way about it.
This sums it up pretty eloquently for me, I've never been the biggest fan of Mario, but I've enjoyed the odd game over the years, I'm probably one of the few people that couldn't get into 64 or Galaxy, two of the highest rated Mario games of all time....yet I LOVED Sunshine.

Looking round the list of Wii U games, all the best rated games are sequels/remakes of games I already have on the Wii, but have never got round to finding the time to play yet! (Donkey Kong, New Super Mario Bros, Pikmin, Zelda, Rayman, Sonic All Stars Racing, Mario Kart) If I've not really given the Wii versions a proper run out, what's the point in getting WiiU versions?

I LOVE the Wii U, the interaction with the Tablet thing is superb, Lego City Undercover is superb. There is so much potential.

It's just a real shame that it's bombing so badly, basically my 2 favourite Ninty consoles of all time (WiiU & Gamecube) seem to be (Virtual Boy aside!) 2 of the worst performing sales wise.

I see Dr Luigi is on special offer, down to nine quid  .

Now I liked Dr. Mario, I think Luigi is a much cooler character and I've probably been spoiled with Android tablet gaming, but a game like that shouldn't really be selling for more than about a fiver at most, never mind the £13.49 it usually costs! :?

Good thing they added the NES version then, lol. XD

Looks like Europe will be getting a One Piece game this year, along with PS3, Vita and 3DS versions.

I'm predicting another platformer for Xmas! Probably that yoshi yarn game

Managed to finish donkey kong tropical freeze at the weekend, quality game that gets better and better the further you progress, the last island was the high point for me, some amazing levels on there!
I also think they got the difficulty level just right this time around :)

Oh, just googled that Yarn Yoshi....will be a day one purchase in our household for sure. Kirby's Epic Yarn was a beautiful experience!

Hard to tell since Nintendo could announce anything at E3, but I'd imagine Smash Bros and Bayonetta 2 being out by then, both being 2014 release dates, so I wouldnt be surprised if they both had a Q4 release for Xmas sales. We had our NSMB game for the Wii U and we probably won't see another 3D Mario for awhile (Unless 3D World get some Luigi type DLC), so either a bunch of Mario spin offs (Maybe they can make up for the lack of EA Sports with a bunch of Mario sports, haha.) or if they really must have more platformers, that Yoshi Epic Yarn game and perhaps one or 2 of their other non-Mario platformers like Kirby or even a new Wario Land.

Now retro has DK out I'm hoping for a Metroid announcement. Wouldn't be surprised to see a paper Mario title either.

Suppose I should answer my own question about this years xmas line up. It's too early for Zelda, I think retro will have been put on a new prime game but we won't see it until next year. They can't have any more Mario games, I guess X will be out around xmas but I wouldn't be surprised to see it slip. Bayonetta 2 is a possibility, as well as that Yoshi game. They really need some big surprises at E3 this year, slim pickings are getting anorexic.

I think Zelda will ultimately depend on what they do with Majora's Mask, either as a 3DS Port or full on HD Wii U remake of sorts. They know a lot of us want it, and I wouldnt be surprised if they brought it to Wii U to attract more console sales to give us another thing to keep fans happy till the new one.
