What retro systems interest you the most?

Post by Swainy » Sun Nov 25, 2012 7:04 am

Being a gamer from the beginning of time (well, about 1978 :) )I'm interested in most systems that have been released since then. I guess it's a question of what systems you played whilst growing up. So what's everyone's age here and what retro systems do you most enjoy?

At 42, much like yourself I've been playing since the beginning of commercial gaming. Its those old 8 bit home computers and tabletop/handheld VFD/LED games that really push my nostalgia buttons though.

I'm 38, so was almost there around the beginning of it all (sort of). My love for the Atari 800XL and Colecovision will forever remain undiminished as they were the systems I had in the early/mid-eighties. They weren't the most popular systems at the time but there were more than enough good games on them to keep me happy.

At 44, I was working before I got properly into gaming.

C64, through SMS to MD, Saturn, PS1, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, then all machines since (except Wii). At the same time I had a maxxed-out Atari ST, then joined the Amiga gaming scene.

I never 'grew-up' with games as such.
Thoughts and prayers.

I'm 41, been gaming since Parker Bros. Merlin, Grandstand's Scramble & the Spectrum, so it's those that interest me the most. I don't play many Spectrum games nowadays as I'm usually on the 360/PS3/Vita/3DS, but I'm still very interested in them & occasionally have a dabble with one of them on my DS.

The Playstation. I just love the advertising and marketing that went with it. It was nothing short of genius IMO. I love looking at promos for it and having a slight nostalgic orgasm as it instantly transports me back to my 6th form days. All that mattered then was having Adidas Sambas on your feet, 10 B&H in your pocket and a Playstation in your room.

Even though I am just 31 I have been gaming since around 1986 so have decent enough 8 bit memories but for me the 16 bit era is the biggest pull. The games still often feel fresh today. Sonic the Hedgehog still looks wonderfully crisp and vibrant and Secret of Mana is still beautiful.

8bit games I find are rather hit and miss now.

I'm 30 so just caught the end of the 8-bit era as I really got into gaming. Oddly though I didn't really know many people who had Speccies, C64s, Amstrads etc. Pretty much all my mates had consoles - first Master Systems and NESs than they upgraded as expected.
Fondest memories are definitely the 16 and 32-bits though. Oh, to be young and easily impressed again!

I'm 31 so just caught the end of the early Micros, Master System and NES, and then my favourite period of SNES, PS1, DC through to Xbox and Playstation 2.
Now it's almost exlusively PS2 and Xbox360, with the odd bit of SNES and PS1 here and there. I don't care for 8bit or N64 at all nowadays.

i'm nearly 36 but only really dabbled in gaming until i got a megadrive with master system converter for christmas and stuck with those until i got a playstation,i also had a friend with a nes, snes and N64 so got to sample them.i have an interest in any system but it's fair to say 16bit onward interests me more.

I am 42 now so have also been gaming since the beginning, all retro systems interest me as i've owned virtually all of them at some stage, the one i would choose if I had to as my ultimate retro system would be a Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
Just thinking about the rubber keyed 8bit wonder makes me feel all warm inside, so many happy memories, other systems like the ZX81, Super Nintendo, 3DO have a special place in my retro gaming heart, ultimately there can be only one so The Spectrum it is
