I lost hours to that game, even happily playing on worlds with no enemies just so I could sit and watch the little guys build and go about their business.
Excellent call Sir... I'd forgotten that brilliant title... had hours of fun over Xmas one year...

Small point, the ones I've submitted are all Amiga, not ST... never played the ST versions!

The New Generation/Bloodlines/Vampire Killer!
See that red stuff? It's called blood.
Now that's controversial. Better than Super Castlevania IV?

I guess we're not counting Rondo of Blood as the PCE is technically an 8-bit machine (though in terms of technical grunt it always seemed to me more a contender to the SNES/MD than the NES/MS).
My god Bloodlines is dire. Rondo of Blood is pretty bad too. Castlevania IV is much better simply because the character isn't hampered by utterly retarded jumping.

What an era the 16bit era was with computers and consoles. You had two hugely different game styles across both formats.
For console you have classics like Super Mario World, Sonic the Hedgehog, Street Fighter 2, Streets of Rage, Alien Soldier, Axelay and so on.
On computers you had The Settlers, Lemmings, Stunt Car Racer, Indy 500, IK+, Lotus and many others. Such a diverse generation!

Starglider 2... I liked the first one also but this improved on it immensely...

Also liked these Rainbird/Magnetic Scrolls babies of which this is my favorite:

Much as I loved playing it at the time, and trying to track down the professor and his bomb, I don't think it really stands the test of time. The frame rate is terrible, particularly when you compare it to its slick contemporaries Damocles and Interphase.

Yeah, I agree.. it is slow and cumbersome esp compared to Starglider which flew along, albeit with much simpler graphics.. but I still love it all the same..

For me it was all about the space whales.. :0)

Damocles and Interphase were great games...

I can't leave this Top 200 void of any Sid Meier games, so here's my favorite from the era: Colonization. Beats the **** out of Civ if you ask me

Why, because you posted a scan instead of a screenshot and that will crash the list algorithm?

But the box art is so awesome! Fine, I've changed it to a screenshot. Happily, the lush, hand painted, artwork of the game is just at good (if a little lower res).

This is far from over, we're only up to 77 by my count! Therefore:
