Doom 3: BFG Edition...anybody getting it?

Post by Megamixer » Fri Sep 21, 2012 7:49 am

I haven't heard much talk on this but it sounds like more than just a straight re-hash. From what I've read, several things have been redone such as now being able to use a torch and gun at the same time and many of the 'frustrating moments' (something I read on a dev interview) have been fixed/updated. There's also apparently a new checkpoint system and the use of id's Rage technology to improve lighting etc.

The game will also include the Resurrection of Evil expansion/sequel and another new single-player expansion as well as Doom and Doom 2. It looks to be launching at budget price too with the likes of Play.com having it for £24.99 on 360/PS3 and £13.99 for the PC.

Doom 3 was one of my absolute favourite games on the original Xbox so on one hand, I'm cautious about whether the changes/alteration detract from what I enjoyed but I'm also very interested to play the update and have an excuse to return to Doom 3 :)

Anybody else interested?

All over it on release baby! I actually stopped myself playing Doom 3 (backward compatible) just a few months back when I read about this 8) ace! I don't think I ever got around to completing the expansion for it.

I have both for the Xbox but didn't start Resurrection of Evil due to having to remove the black slab from my set-up :(

Doom 3 with the lights out at night and the sound up is great stuff :D

Way to take the tension out of the game.

I actually HATE the whole torch mechanic but it's Doom baby! 8) I also hated that the 3 or 4th boss was actually the best and not the end boss but there you go. I did start RoE but didn't finish it because it was then that I stupidly got my xbox chipped which pretty much killed the console for me.

I am looking forward to this.

edit:

Those freaky baby things are fooked up!

Love Doom.... hate games where the biggest enemy to progress is not being able to see anything.. so Doom 3 wasn't for me.

And still isn't at £25.... at the PC price on Xbox, yes, I'd get it.

Will download the demo for PC when its released, to see if the 'upgraded' features are to my liking.

At that price for PC, if my laptop will run it it may be one of those rare purchases I make before its reduced.

I assume there'll be a demo to try it.

It's a mere £14.39 on Sainsbury's website when the current 20% discount promo code is applied -

Definitely getting this at some point - I bought the original for PC at release but never had a computer good enough to run it properly!

Yes but probably not straight away. Im tempted just to wait until the run up till christmas and see if its on offer. Quite a few of the games i bought on day one last year ended up being half price a month later so being a bit more budget minded this year its a wait and see policy.

Still this in HD and surround sound :D

If I ever want to play Doom 3 I'll probably have to buy it since the original release still steadfastly refuses to work on my PC.
