The worse conversions aching to be remade

Post by lavalyte » Sun Sep 02, 2012 8:06 am

I love when homebrew developers re-make arcade games for systems that received really poor to average conversions.
For example ms. pacman on the atari 2600.

got me thinking about those conversions I'd like someone to re-do...

C64 and Amiga Bombjack,
Amiga super sprint,
C64 Double Dragon,
Most versions of Popeye
NES Donkey Kong

Although, as far as I know, there is no 'official' Amiga version, as it was an Atari arcade (why port to the competition?)

There are countless ST games that could have been better.

Turrican 2, Shadow of the Beast, Wolf Child, Cannon Fodder, Pacmania, Barbarian 2 (Psygnosis), I could go on...

Streetfighter 2 on the Amiga, could have been so much better with a decent development team behind it as later Amiga beat em ups have proven.

There's never been a decent conversion of Outrun on any format. I think that the Speccy version is probably the best

NES Donkey Kong did recieve a remake with the cement factory stage added, although you have to buy a red Wii to be able to play it, there is a rom floating around though if you know where to look.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQviATx7Yok

Amiga SFII... Super SFII (the AGA version) is pretty decent when played using WHDload and a Competition Pro Honey Bee CD32 pad, the ECS version is pretty dire tho http://www.lemonamiga.com/games/details.php?id=3043

Edit: found a video on Youtube of Amiga AGA Super Street Fighter 2, Its a lot smoother on the real thing, and doesn't slow down or judder at all unlike the video, which I assume is emulation with the game running at 50hz although a 60hz option is right there in the options menu

PC engine? GBA?

But, yes, most computer versions were horrible...

ill jump on the Amiga train.
Final fight. weird soul less, zero atmosphere conversion with about 6colours on screen.
Double dragon. billy and jimmy sprites look to have been replaced with what could only be described as two bad transvetites?!

Rampage on the Atari 8bit. Good system, very bad conversion.

I don't get the critisism of Final Fight on the Amiga. Sure there were a few things missing but I think people expected it to be an exact replica of the arcade despite the technical superioty of the CPS1 board. I thought it was a decent conversion considering. It certainly had more than 6 colours on screen though.

The trouble with a lot of arcade conversions is they were made in parallel with the ST version and the Amigas custom chips weren't taken advantage of...It still beggars belief the Amiga made it to 1989 what with the censored conversions in the first first 3 years of its life!
