Sleeping Dogs

Post by HalcyonDaze00 » Mon Aug 13, 2012 5:01 pm

Anybody getting this on Friday?

It looks great, a cross between GTA and Shenmue!???

Being tipped as the surprise hit this year, worth a look I think.....

I'll be picking it up on the PC (mainly so I can get a more stable frame rate when driving). It reminds me more of the Yakuza series than Shenmue personally - the brutal hand to hand stuff and gambling. I can't wait to try it.

I don't like Shenmue or GTA much but Sleeping Dogs looks like the sleeper hit of the entire generation. It just looks fantastic fun with so much content but more focused than GTA and more like Yakuza.

I won't be buying it on friday but I will be keeping an interest in feedback and may well pick it up in future.

It's between this or Darksiders 2 at the moment ... reviews are coming in thick and fast for them both now and I'm slanting towards Darksiders 2. Alternatively, I may decide to be sensible and play the dozens of unfinished games I already have instead of wasting more money.

Is that true? I've not followed this title at all, so I have no idea.

If it is, I'm in two minds about it. One is that at least the game is being supported long-term and not just shat out for day 1 sales. Fallout and Oblivion are super examples of DLC that really transform and extend the games, so that's a good thing.

Then again, games designed from the start with DLC in mind have that constant stench of "Did they withhold it for DLC?" about them, like Saints Row 3 and literally everything Capcom has released this generation.

So yeah, on the one hand it's nice to think Publishers are thinking long-term, but it's another to conclude we're being fed the rest of the game over a six month period. :|

I'm not into GTA etc, but I do love me some Hong Kong action, so I definitely want to play this at some point. I don't have a PS3, 360 or a decent enough PC, but my brother has a 360, so if he doesn't buy it I may just have to myself.

The reviews are mostly promising, and while a lot of the criticism seems to be that it doesn't push the boundaries of the genre, that shouldn't be a problem for me as I haven't played anything else like it before other than GTA: Chinatown Wars.
