Amiga Platformer Games Recommendations

Post by retrosofer » Sun Jul 29, 2012 3:40 pm

I have really been getting into Amiga platformers of late, some really great ones out there, have discovered so many great gems so i thought i'd create this thread.

Aladdin
Lion King
Cool Spot (All great Amiga versions of these games, they are all solid through and through in every way, though Cool Spot runs abit slow.)

Odyssey
Tin Toy Adventure
ACSYS Demo (This is well worth checking out.)
Jim Power (I have just discovered this game, amazing gfx and gameplay, hidden gem for sure.)
Zool series (There actually really decent platformers, not the best, but above average imho.)
Lionheart (Havent played this one much, but what i have played of it its fantastic so far.)
Sword (Brillient game, its tough though, its old skool 8-bit difficulty, not for the easily frustraited. It has really great gfx and like playing a platformer with a South Park character.)

Ok so these are ones i dont like;
Strider 1&2 (Just bloody aweful games on the Amiga, both are really bad, much better on the Mega Drive.)
Brian The Lion (I know this is meant to be one of the best on the Amiga, but i dont like it, too generic for me.)
Gods (Yet another game i cant get on with, its not a bad game, far from it infact, its just not to my taste.)
Leander (I'm in two minds about this one, i like it, but at the same time i dont, just not sure about this one.)
Ruff n Tumble (The games ok, gfx are fantastic, controlls are spot on, & game as a whole is really well made, but for me its too generic & doesn't stand out as a run n' gun platformer, it blends into with all the countless generic platformers released in the 90's.)

Another vote for Addams Family as well, good game.

Also Magic Pockets by Bitmap Brothers is very good and there is a great conversion of Rodland too.

Is Stormlord on your list of games to try out? I haven't played it but remember a friend playing it a lot. And dying a lot, too.

Has anyone played Dark Castle and Beyond Dark Castle? They both look really cool, but on Lemmon Amiga they have both been slated, anyone?

Ruff 'n' Tumble.
If it's slower than me, dumber than me and it tastes good ... tough titty.

Harlequin seems to be one that's often ignored, but one of my faves.
Death may be your Santa Claus.
