In no order too!

1. GT4. (PS2) *
2. Black (PS2, xbox) (hey, I played it through 3 times this year!)
3. Wing Commander III (3do) (played it through many times!)
4. Ridge racer (PS1)
5. Jackal (arcade, MAME)

* I've played: PGR, MSR, PGR2, Outrun 2, Forza, Colin McRae 5, R:Racing, that Konami racer, and a whole bunch of others and Gt4 is truly the best driving experience out there. (these others are pretty good too!)

That's an impossible question, there are just too many great games of every genre.

For me, Day of the Tentacle would have to be in there, as would Monkey Island 1 & 2 and Simon the Sorceror. That's four of my slots used up already solely for P&C adventure games. Then there's the shoot-em-ups (Galaga Deluxe, Dr Destructo, Warblade), RPGs (Morrowind, Diablo II, Oblivion), text adventures (VBCA, So Far, Lurking Horror), platformers (Rick Dangerous, Chuckie Egg), strategy (Sim City 2000, Civilization), space trading (the Elite series), racing (Continental Circus, Stunt Car Racer), first person shooters (FEAR, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake), freeform (Just Cause, GTA series...)

No way I could choose only 5. Maybe 25.... :)

Hmm..., tough call. Let's see.

1) Quazatron/Paradroid
2) Sensible World of Soccer
3) Monty On The Run
4) Impossible Mission
5) Speedball 2

So many other great games that I enjoy, though. And how I didn't manage to include Outrun (arcade version only) in my 5 instead of one of the others... But then leaving out one of the others! :)

Maybe someone should make a top 5 games in each genre? That would make things a lot easier.

I'd like to see that split between budget and full price releases as well.
Splink!

Tough one, from top to bottom I'd have to pick...

1) HALO
2) Metal Gear Solid
3) Ninja Gaiden Black
4) Shadow of the Colossus
5) Resident Evil 4

In that order and not one token classic game in sight unless you count MGS as old hat!

...am I allowed to argue with peoples choices? Or is it just a list with no room for discussion? If it is, I'll be quiet. But, erm... Halo? You 'absolutely' sure? Pffft! OK. Sorry. Shhh. Bye.

Feel free to argue, I won't take offence! :D

HALO was the first singular game that sold a console to me. With previous platforms it was the entire bundle. Megadrive had Sonic, Desert Strike, Road Rash and Earth Worm Jim. With PlayStation I could play Tekken, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil and of course Metal Gear Solid. In my view HALO was and still is an amazing game. I'm a sucker for the Sci-Fi earth Vs the universe storyline and the gameplay/interplay of the alien race/classes kept me amused for hours. That's why it gets the number 1 treatment and because it gave birth to Red Vs Blue!

Halo (I'm backing up Devin on this one)
Stunt Car Racer
Doom
Powermonger
Sonic the Hedgehog

So many left out <sob> but at least most of the genres are represented.

Not prioritized:

Dune II (PC/Amiga)
XCom/UFO Enemy Unknown (PC/Amiga/PSone...PSone was the best imo; fixed several bugs and had some extra UFOpaedia goodies)
Impossible Mission (C64)
Marble Madness (Arcade)
Joust (Arcade)

Games I envied my Amiga-owning mate for:

Post by DigitalD » Sat Dec 23, 2006 10:33 pm

'Billsy', a school pal of mine had an Amiga, the envy of which I covered up with smug praise for the latest arcade conversion to my precious imported Megadrive. But let's face it, lightweight side scrollers at £40 a pop from the grey importer is just too hard to swallow when he could nip down to Woolies and snap up the latest 4-disk flight sim for half the price...

1. Supercars II (the most 2-player fun, before Super Mario Kart...)
2. Beneath A Steel Sky
3. Batman The Movie (if only for the first time I saw the Batwing stage...)
4. Switchblade II (unbelievable! the first time 'console quality' rang true)
5. R-Type (damn Irem! all I wanted was the original for my MD or SNES. and did you notice that if you plugged in a Megadrive joypad, you could launch the force with the 'B' button?! :x )
