Except the PS2 DVD drive was a significant selling point in the previous generation.

I probably didn't word that very well, but I was referring to how you can access Facebook, Zune, windows media streaming etc on it

In my opinion the only console this generation that will be remembered will be the wii for the motion controls. The other consoles will be remebered for thier games:-Xbox 360- gears of war,Halo etc. Ps3- Uncharted,Resistance etc

Well, it was the first console to make your front room sound like a busy Airport Terminal. And I suppose it provided the platform to get console gamers on to the fps scene (in a big way).

It was the first games console capable of heating a small room all on its own.

I think XBLA will be its main legacy, and deservedly so. It's a brilliant addition to this generation.

Yeah, definitely - XBLA is the best thing going in this generation. Heaps of "original" games (Pac-Man CE DX is Top-Ten worthy!), otherwise-legally-unavailable arcade classics like The Simpsons, loads of Saturn and Dreamcast stuff that'd otherwise cost you a small fortune (Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga!), a nice selection of Mega Drive games, and of course all those fantastic hidden Indie games (Score Rush, can't get much better than that one).

And it's truly unfair to say it's just FPS and racing games. Of the 21 games I have for it, only one of them's a FPS (Left 4 Dead), and one of them's a racing game (Sonic & Sega All-Stars). I thought Misery would favour the 360 due to the amount of physical releases Cave are putting out for it!

Also, not having an aeriel connection in my flat for some reason, the 360's great for having BBC iPlayer, 4od and Crackle on it. And also Last.fm.

All this means that in five years time I've STILL yet to see a single reason for owning a PS3.

Although I have great memories of playing all my retro systems I would have killed to have a console like the 360 back then.

All that free time and online functionality would have been heaven!

Strangely I find that the 360 is the first console to feel more like a PC than a console. I think this is a very good thing. It has hurt PC gaming this gen though, with lots of PC gamers buying a 360. The 360 is in fact the first console I have ever bought new from retail (console - not computer or handheld). PC gaming will make a comeback with the dawn of digital distribution.

I think it will be fondly remembered, not only because of its virtues, but also due to the nostalgia that a lot of todays kids will inevitably have for it.

I agree that it is kind of, sort of the Spectrum of this gen. The Wii is definitely not the Spectrum of this gen - the Spectrum was good.

I think the 360 is the megadrive of its day. Up against a rival slightly more powerful and refined but with a larger collection of decent games and a raw almost rustic quality to it. Up until recently it was almost all about hardcore games until cruddy kinect diluted the focus.

LOL. Will this Gen be remembered for ushering in DLC and the start of non-physical media ie; downloads ?
