Bedrooms to Billionaires. Who is excited?

Post by Darran@Retro Gamer » Thu May 24, 2012 6:49 am

There's an excellent new documentary being made by the same people who worked on the Newsfield Years.
It's being launched here and looks like it could be amazing.

Yep, saw it over on WOS and very excited. Thought the Newsfield Years was very good.

Didn't realise this was coming from the same crew as the Newsfield doco.

Love to see it happen, but just don't have the cash this month (or probably for the next couple if I'm honest)

What a depressing thought -

"This era is so often overlooked and not known by young British talent looking to enter the games industry, as the vast majority of UK children, school leavers and even students believe that gaming originated mainly from the US and Japan and have little to no knowledge that a British games industry even once existed’."

i.e. they haven't bothered to learn about its history. I guess history doesn't fit into Tweets or Facebook updates.

more depressing is the way they act like there's no British games industry now

And if some of the nation's youth do happen to bother reading supposedly expert publications about video gaming history they encounter the likes of this,

"Prior to the (NES) console's European release, gamers had been drowning in an ocean of low-quality software... while home computers began to suffer from a heavily saturated market of homemade releases."

Loved the 8-bit era, with so many computers/consoles appearing it felt like we were witnessing the immediate after effects of Video gamings big bang.
