Shadow Dancer

Post by Ferret Oxide » Sun Apr 15, 2012 8:46 am

Just a quick question. Which is the best version? I have the Master System conversion, but is the MD one any good? Or would MAME be the best bet? Or even the Amiga conversion?

I really want to be able to enjoy this game, but the MS version is too flickery for my liking.

Never got into the Amiga version, although I seem to recall it was much praised back in the day.

Thanks. I remember the Amiga version getting praised, but I'll go for the MD version I think.

I had the MD version on Japanese import some years ago. Brilliant game!

I'll agree with what the others are saying, the MD version is defintely the best...the levels are really well designed on it and it very well balanced. It's well worth MAME'ing the arcade original though, as it's still very good, and a different game too, completely different levels to the MD one.

On a different note, what other similar games are there on the MD/MAME that are worth looking out for? (Asides from Shinobi, of course.)

Ah, I was actually trying to think of that one a couple of nights back, couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called. Reason I asked was that I installed a load of emulators on my old PSP recently, really think that Shinobi and it's sequels/spinoffs are very well suited to handhelds.

Asides from Shinobi on the Game Boy Advance, that was gubbins, they really dropped the ball with it. :( But at least the GBA had Konami's Ninjo Cop to make up for it.

Will have a look at the others too, didn't realise Rastan 2 had a MD port. Is that the same game that was in the arcades as 'Nastar Warrior'?

Megadrive version best version by a county mile, its done by the same team that did the arcade Shinobi..

Master System is a port of the arcade, the normal levels can be completed by just crouching..

Shadow Dancer arcade I like it but has some really broken gameplay and bad collison detection.. I was trying to 1cc it but could never pass that Ninja girl with the Monkeys, that Train boss on level 2 was a nightmare was a nightmare

Megadrive Rastan is Nastar Warrior, the PC Engine Rastan 2 looks nicer than the Megadrive one

I remember Shadow Dancer on the MD getting a cool reception compared to Revenge of Shinobi back in the day. It didnt stop me enjoying it though. Its the only version Ive played, but i'd recommend it.
