FEZ - XBLA

Post by HalcyonDaze00 » Wed Apr 11, 2012 12:26 pm

Anybody planning on getting this on Friday?

Not heard much about it but its getting some astonishing reviews, reminds me of Nebulus the way the screen spins and rotates.

How many points is it gonna be? Only got 100 left, looks interesting, hope it's 80 like most XBL Indie games.

It's not an Indie game, it's an XBLA game, and it's 800 points.

I'm kind of sceptical of this game. That IGN review was just gushing and I worry that this going to be a 'isn't this great because it's indie how amazing games as art it's a hipster's life for me' kind of thing. The perspective shifting mechanic does look neat and it could have made a great action game but since there's no penalty for death and no peril that's obviously out of the window. Also the talk of how important exploration and inhabiting the world is cocnerns me too; not saying these are bad things to have in a game just that they're in the realm of games as experiences, whereas Fez is unique in a mechanical way; if it's not the focus of the game and its potential isn't fulfilled then it's just a gimmick.

So my main worry is that it the game is just mindlessly switching perspectives until you see the solution to a puzzle or the way forward. It's a question of whether or not there is logic to how the perspective changes are made that if understood can lead to greater accomplishments, that would make it a good game and make the exploration aspect seem worthwhile, or whether the way the levels are put together is arbitrary and it's just the amount of time you spend spinning around that determines what you find. Until I know that I'll steer clear.

Looks like a paper mario rip off and the guy that made it comes across as a tw*t so I'll give it a miss.

Played the demo earlier and it's pretty good and clever how rotating the environment produces new paths that wee unseen from the previous perspective.

Is this the game that spawned the new film Indie Game: The movie?
