I've got a 16gb card on the way but an extra 8 certainly won't go amiss.

Thanks for the detailed post mate, i'll deffo be checking some of those titles out, once i'm up and running! Especially like the sound of The Swapper, Fez and Thomas was Alone. I do like a good puzzler, me. :D

Seeing as i want to play Uncharted and you've mentioned Tearaway and Gravity Rush, this seems like a bargain:

I'm aware they're download codes not physical media but that's irrelevant to me and the fact there's an 8gb memory card included seems good value! I have no idea what the other two games are but it'll be fun finding out! :)

I've been playing Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2 Sisters Generation which is excellent presuming you haven't played the PS3 original.

Great post, Shadowman,

I definitely second your recommendations for digital only stuff:

OlliOlli 2 - I wouldn't bother with 1 now that 2 is out. A bit like the Tony Hawk games, adding the manual to the skating really improves it.

Rogue Legacy - I don't like Metroidvania stuff (or Spelunky) but this just hooked me so much.

TxK - Minter at his best. I've really neglected this game but it's amazing.

Super Stardust Delta - much much much better than Super Stardust Ultra on the PS4. Really great game. Just make sure to turn off the tilt and touchscreen options for Delta mode.

Motorstorm RC - takes a while to get your head around the controls and then becomes the best Super Sprint game ever.

My other shouts;

Don't Die Mr Robot - an amazingly fun dodge 'em up with great controls. Super addictive.

Steamworld Dig - basically a kids' version of Terraria sort of. With no building. Very enjoyable explore 'em up.

Urban Trial Freestyle - a Trials HD rip off with some nice extra depth to it. As with Trials it is fun until it becomes really difficult. I'm super average at these games though and really liked this one.

Gunslugs - addictive retro run and gunner. Seems a bit too cheap and cheerful at first but I really got into it.

Surge Deluxe - you like puzzle games you say? Well this is a good one. Initially it seems like it has no actual gameplay but eventually it clicks and makes sense.

Resogun - not nearly as great as the PS4 version but still pretty decent in its own right.

Fat Princess - yes it's F2P which I'm not a fan of but I 100%ed this game without spending a penny and really enjoyed it.

Futuridium / Race The Sun - similar games, very arcadey. Worth it if you see them on sale.

In terms of physical stuff. Everyone should own Virtua Tennis 4.

Looks good to me. I never got around to buying the PS3 version so it'll certainly be on my radar.

It turned up today and its a lovely little machine. I'm glad i went for the oled screen as it looks gorgeous. On the downside my memory card hasn't turned up, so i can't actually play anything yet :( Hopefully it'll turn up tomorrow. I'll be shopping for Borderlands 2 over the weekend, too. Excited! :D

I know how you feel Nokgod, I was in the same position yesterday when I got my second Vita. No memory card meant I had to wait until today to actually download anything good!

So I've been playing the Yakuza Ishin and Yakuza 0 companion apps today.

To give you an idea of the games, they both give you a mix of gambling games, other mini games and battle dungeons (in Ishin) and the fighting arena (Yakuza 0).

Ishin allows you to do some of the Haruka side mission - you grow/collect crops, sell the crops and use the ingredients to cook meals.
You also have access to the blacksmith to forge better swords, of course you need to really hit the battle dungeon hard to get the ingredients needed to create the swords (and by the end of the main game trust me you'll be grinding a ton!).
You can also fish for... fish. However I feel that you can't do much with the fishing for now since you'd need to upgrade the fishing rod to really catch the big fish (which you can do on the app, just grind for Verya points).

The main bulk of the game though is in the Battle Dungeons and the gambling house:

The battle dungeons are smaller linear levels where you battle through hordes of enemies (and sometimes complete certain sub missions) and then fight a boss. There are around 30 of them to complete and they get harder as you go (to the point where they actually get pretty damn annoying in the full version of the game). Its got the full combat engine of the main game and you can level up all your fighting styles as you go - making the game more fun the more you play it. It runs pretty well (but not perfectly) but its cool to have a little Yakuza game to play on the go.

The gambling on both games is ace, you've got a mix of casino gambling games (Black Jack, Poker, Roulette, Baccarrat) along with Japanese gambling like Koi Koi and Chou Han. Mah Jong is present in Ishin but you'd need to pay for it in the 0 app (its one of the paid games, along with the arcade games like Columns and Monkey Ball). Mah Jong is great in Ishin, its slightly cut down (no more dramatic cutscenes when you win/lose) but the core game is there and is just as addictive as ever.

The Zero app gives you an arcade where you can play some emulated games (but you have to pay a couple of hundred yen to unlock that part), the Slot Machines and the fighting arena. The slot machines are fairly standard and basically follows the standard pattern of shoveling money into them until they finally pay out. Not that difficult in 0 since you get millions of yen for doing almost nothing.

The fighting arena is pretty fleshed out, while I've not done all of it yet you get the choice of using Kiryu or Majima and then taking on one of several different types of arena challenge (straight up fights, weapon fights, fights on a massive burning platform etc.) Your limited to only one fighting style for each character (in the main game you get three) but you can unlock most of the moves for the styles you have access to. The problem with the mode is that it looks like its aimed at you being a certain level when you start the fights, as at the moment some battles are brutally difficult! Your characters are level 1 with barely any moves so its an up hill struggle to complete most arena battles past the first tour.
Again, the fighting system works perfectly here, and feels smoother than Ishin (maybe because its just 1 on 1 battles?) and its gotten me suitably hyped for the full game due out this Thursday. These are great little apps, nothing amazing but they are free (and still better than certain full priced games I've played).

Happy to say everything turned up on Saturday although the memory card wasn't too much of an issue anyway as i picked up that Adventure Mega Pack i linked to above.

First impressions are extremely favourable :D What a glorious picture that screen pumps out! I briefly played Tearaway, TxK and Gravity Rush. Not too keen on TxK (i never liked Tempest and it seems very similar). Tearaway is lovely and has some great ideas utilising the rear touch pad. Gravity Rush also looks amazing and one i'll probably spend a decent amount of time playing. Once i get the mechanics down, i think it'll be fab. Haven't played Uncharted yet...as soon as i loaded it up my son swiped it for a go....

As for some of its other functions, i haven't tried PS4 remote play yet but i joined in a PS4 Destiny party my son and friends were involved in absolutely seamlessly. I think they were a bit surprised to hear my voice giving unwanted advice  So yeah, very happy so far and i'm sure i still have much to discover.

Just keep in mind to continue upgrading your stats and moves in Gravity Rush to get the most out of it. A couple of the moves need to be leveled all the way up before then are really all that useful!

ah, ok mate. Cheers for the advice. :D I'm going to give Uncharted a whirl shortly, once i've tried that out i'll decide which game to concentrate on first! (before i get Borderlands 2 and i completely disregard everything else for about six months  )

What about the PlayStation TV device. Is it any good? I've got a Vita - well actually my little nephew borrowed it, over four months ago, gotta get it back. And now I thinking about getting the TV, potentially trading my Vita too. Should I?

I've still not tried the TV yet, the main problem with it is that not every game is compatible with it, even those that don't require any of the Vita's touch controls so I'd not get rid of the Vita for one, as you may find some of your games incompatible.

I've just looked at the compatibility list and I'm not impressed. My Sega Virtua Tennis isn't listed, neither is Wipeout 2048. The Vita version of Ridge Racer isn't listed either, although the PSP game is.

When is the streaming service coming to Europe to play PS3 games via a subscription?

Hmmm...

Just downloaded COUNTERSPY seeing as it was free. I'm instahooked! Love the premise, the art style and the gameplay. I can see me spending good time on this one. :D

I really like Uncharted as well, so i'll be playing that through. I'm finding it tricky to aim though, for some reason. I just think i need to get used to the analogue sticks after using a Dualshock 4/playing Destiny for so long.

Tried out Escape Plan too but i'm not really a fan. I get it, but i don't really like it....mebbe i'll give it more time when i'm bored.

For Uncharted I use the gyro controls for fine aiming (lining up head shots) - it actually works incredibly well and is worth giving a try, you may like it.

For Counter Spy, my big issue with it has always been the load times on the game, its a dead fun game that takes forever to load a new level, and has no restart button if you bugger a level up. Other than that I love the premise as well, the mix of action and stealth works well and the mix of 2D and 3D is implemented well most of the time.

Escape Plan is a weird one. I've played the main game and DLC for it and while I did enjoy it... there was definitely something "off" about the game for me, I didn't enjoy it as much as I think I should have but I can't put my finger on exactly why that's the case...

Anyway, this week I've been focusing on OlliOlli 2 (the other PS+ freebie). Its even better than the first game - all the addictive gameplay, mix of tricks and platforming and difficulty but now with a few new moves that completely change the way I play the game. Its also more difficult than the first game, as I'm having issues clearing some of the amateur and pro challenges. Its well worth a download, if you enjoyed the first game then its a must play, and if you just want a decent platformer/skateboarding hybrid game then its also worth a try.

I'll try the gyro controls, see how i go. As it stands i gradually spiral in....all the while being shot, so it can't be any worse.

I tried downloading olliolli2 but i get getting an error message. I'll try it again later.
