Master System RPG’s

Post by richie freebird » Fri Nov 04, 2011 1:07 pm

I’ve just got hold of an emulator with every Master System, Game Gear, SG3000 and Sega MK 3 game ever released. I’ve just set myself up a nice little USB snes clone pad and feel like playing an RPG of some kind.

Can anyone recommend me anything from this genre on the aforementioned systems?

Thanks for the recommendations.

I’ve pretty much always been a sports / fighting games lover more than anything else, so I have no memories of RPG titles from playing them back at the time they were out, even though the Master System is my bread and butter, system wise.

I've owned nearly every major Sega console and none of them have had particularly large collections of RPGs.

Ultima 4 is a must have, best version of it and looks wonderful. After that I'd put Wonder Boy 3 The Dragons Trap at the top of any list, fantastic action RPG which still plays well to this day.

Edit. Seems I did a video of it some time back:

Golden Axe Warrior is a great Zelda rip off.

The wonder boy in moster world/land games aren't your typical RPG's but I'd give them a go if I were you.

The only 2 that I ever played on the Master system back in the day were Miracle Warriors and Phantasy Star. PS I don't need to say anything about, it's legendary. Miracle Warriors I remember even back then being incredibly grind heavy and light on directions as to where to go.

The only MS RPG I've ever played is Phantasy Star remade on my GBA. Good game at first, but you need to map every single dungeon carefully from the middle of the game onward because of the first-person perspective and the unfortunate fact that every inch of the dungeon's corridor look identical. :( The game stopped being fun for me from that point, unfortunately.

ANother vote for Wonder Boy 3 - The Dragons Trap. That game was way ahead of it's time and massive, I loved it back then AND now!

But that is why IT IS BRILLIANT. You shall work for your progress. Work hard.

You could save quite a bit of money getting the Sega Master System Collection...probably has a good 30 great games on it.

Personally, my favorite would be Shadowrun. Such a fun game.

I'm all for working for progress! :) However, when the "work" feeling was far more than the "fun" feeling, then it was time for me to stop playing the game and try something else. I think it's an individual thing as I tried the game based on a recommendation from a friend who loved the working/thinking aspect of that game.
