Prince Of Persia on C64

Post by SexyWayne » Mon Oct 10, 2011 2:33 pm

Dunno if anyone has posted this before and tbh I can't be arsed to run a search... on my latest visit to lemon64.com I came across this: http://csdb.dk/forums/?roomid=7&topicid=87318#87324

Looks like it's gonna be a great conversion, EasyFlash cartridge only tho from what I've read so far, but playable in WinVice 2.2 and later :D

I can't wait to play it NOW!

I remember there being a preview of this back in the ninties. Unfortunately it was only ever a load of screen grabs converted from the Amiga version and thrown onto the Commodore 64. Fingers crossed this is going to be one to add to the long list of great Commodore 64 games.

There shouldn't be a need to cross your fingers matey, it's apparently complete and he's just building up a little pre-release hype! The release date has been set for the 16th of October and, as SexyWayne says, it requires an EasyFlash cartridge to run because i believe it spools animations and draw code from ROM on the fly - VICE 2.2 can support EasyFlash if the cost of the cartridge is a bit prohibitive right now. =-)

I. Want. This. NOW.

People who make games for the old beast and put it on a cartridge have my unwavering respect.

Which, as we all know, is all anyone in video game world really wants, the attention of Robin Morningstar... :-D

You'll. Have. To. Wait. A. Few. Days. =-)

Don't forget to order an Easyflash or compatible cartridge to write it to, i'm cheating and ordered a Turbo Chameleon!

I love your games Jason. I got into the basics of coding after reading your fab articles in Commodore Zone.

Anyway - I'm hoping that someone can create a version of POP to work on the 1541ultimate 2 cartridge.

[Curtsey] i wasn't being serious about the whole "kneel before me" thing of course... =-)

Chances are it'll be the other way around, at some point a firmware update for the 1541I Ultimate 2 will give it Easyflash support and it'll just be a matter of mounting the CRT. The Chameleon already handles Easyflash images, so if all goes to "plan" i'll be able to leave PoP running for a bit at Replay.

There's a gameplay video up as well now.

Playing it now. Very impressed of the whole game; presentaltion, graphics, animation etc. Looks like the Apple II version but with better graphics and sound. Makes you wonder how how this would have gone down with Zzap!64 at the time - would have though it would have achieved a Gold Medal accolade. Good work MrSID.

Definitely a 98% in Zzap!!, it's absolutely breathtaking. Other than the graphics, it's identical to the PC and Amiga versions (minus upside down levels). I hope it's featured in Retro Gamer soon :)
