Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon is pretty good but rock hard arcade game from Ban Presto in 1995
Knights of Valour is also worth a go

Looking at Shinobi here with some SFC titles a bit.
Shinobi is a brawler? Or are you referring to the PS2 version?
I don't consider any of the pre-32 bit era Shinobis to be brawlers.

Haha, indeed I do! The first SNES one is probably worse though (I swear the thing is so slow it takes about 2 seconds to load each boss encounter! That shouldn't happen on a SNES!)Shinobi wrote: Megadrive
Sailor Moon I know Teped Snake will disagree with me on this:)
I think pretty much all my suggestions (Undercover Cops, Growl, Two Crude Dudes) have been mentioned, but would like to add The Ninja Kids (Taito, Arcade) which is basically a very, very violent episode of The Muppets complete with Golden Axe-style magic attacks, slightly loose but decent controls, and the single worst translation of all time. It's also included in Taito Legends for the PS2/Xbox/PC, and supports up to four players.

Bruce Lee:Quest Of The Dragon is worth the £2 or so, just to see how bad the game turned out.

Re: Beat em Ups / Brawlers

The Fantastic 4 (PS1) $-player if you have a multi-tap.
Time Commando (PS1) Mix of beat-em-up/shoot-em-up. Controls take a while to 'gel'.
Re: Beat em Ups / Brawlers
Violent Storm, Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder, Aliens Vs Predator, The Punisher. Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Knights of the Round and Streets of Rage 2 are my cliched but favourite recommendations. I also played a decent one called Gaia Crusaders on MAME a while ago but deleted/lost the rom for some reason
Stay the hell away from the travesty that is Guardians of the 'hood though. I was replaying it last night for the purposes of reviewing it and its nasty. A perfect picture of what Atari had become in the late 80's/early 90's.

Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

The Outfoxies (Arcade-Namco) looked pretty sweet in recent RG magazine.
Re: Beat em Ups / Brawlers
Maybe I missed it, but I don't think Knights of the Round has been mentioned.
