Did you actually try it on "all the platforms"? Or are you just repeating some online comments & opinions?

I played it for a month or so on 360 without patching - not a single crash or freeze. Couple of people above seem to have had similar experience. Sure, there were some minor clipping issues, perhaps slightly skewed DoF. Nothing major for a huge open world.

I find this hysteria over alleged "bugs" in games quite amusing, it always spreads like a wildfire. Dead Island is a good example recently - ok it might have had some major issues too, but there were whole threads on forums dedicated to some brick stuck in a tree or some other minor graphical glitch - Bawww! The game is broken! Jaysis....wait for the patch before you buy or play only boring corridor shooters or 2D games.

ps 2 and pc if you must know

the ps2 version froze several times on me
the pc version threw a few hissy fits about my video card (its a bloody geforce 8600 you bstard work with it ! tht was fixed after a driver upgrade )
aaaand crash to the desktop
the next attempt caused a bsod
i havent touched the game since

i dont play corridoor shooters
and whats wrong with 2d games anyway ?
hey wait ! i got a new complaint !

Just downloaded the demo for Prey.

Wow that intro sequence is awesome, like something lifted straight out of an episode of X Files :D

Not sure if these have been mentioned already;

Flatout Ultimate Carnage is a superb racer that is often overlooked due to more recognisable racing games Burnout, Forza etc.

Wartech - a fun Japanese fighting game and usually cheap as chips.

Another game I enjoyed a lot more than the reviews suggested is Alone in the dark. The faults are there for all to see but it was quite a fun romp.

Project Sylpheed, already mentioned in this thread, is also only £2.00 on CEX. Bargainous!

Prey is awesome but the fact you LITERALLY cannot die makes it a little bit easy.

Wartech is horrible though, a complete broken mess of a game

Alone In The Dark probably has the worst control system ever implemented in a game, to the point it almost makes it unplayable.

Thats why I haven't seen many bugs then - as this is a Xbox 360 thread! :?

Although it is very similar to Just Cause 2. . .

The characters could have done with a little bit more balancing, true, but broken? No way. If you didn't like it, fair enough, but it's in no way broken.

PS2 version I can agree on - but then it was forced by publisher - never meant for this poor old hardware.
If you try playing complex games on a PC without up to date drivers & patches then don`t be surprised if they act wild. Hell, my FO3/STALKER are up to date and still crash now and then.
2D games are fine but rather easier to code than big open worlds, no?
Anyway.

Singularity - promising at the beginning but I found it quite boring later on. Extremely linear and full of invisible walls...yuck. Still, for a few bob it might be worth a go.
Never got around to playing it but The Outfit is supposed to be a fun light-strategy/action WW2 shooter. Also a bargain.

Maybe if it'd stop for a minute and decide what f***ing genre it wants to be I would give it the time of day

Glad you got Darksiders :D

Saw that you were playing Wet earlier. Wish I'd stuck with it but the controls annoyed me a bit.

the ps2 hardware can still push things forward dont count it out just yet

that pc ran oblivion just fine without patches or updates and the game still gave me a bsod
i decided not to bother after that any more maybe the 360 version someday

oh i am sure somebody would make a big open world game in 2d given the oppertunity
hey wait ! i got a new complaint !

Just a bit unfair suggesting it was bugged to death, when on the 360 it wasn't. That is all.

When I think of those two games, I get them confused, so wouldn't surprise me if the same team did both - they were very very similar.

I was going to say that nicking the helicopter on Mercenaries was brilliant fun - then realised I wasn't sure if that was in Just Cause 2 . . .

Not played Just Cause, but Just Cause 2 is great fun if you can pick it up cheap - attaching vehicles to airplanes and watching them dangle from them is always fun . . .if not realistic. Although i confess, I haven't exactly worked at the missions - just like bombing stuff up!

The save game is a bit suspect - I found that hard work and the restart point always seemed miles away.

But for a fiver, go for it.
