Does anyone collect (modern) game soundtracks?

Post by jdanddiet » Mon Sep 12, 2011 7:23 am

These days games often have spectacular scores, often to rival film scores. With special editions included soundtracks and also standalone commercial releases, many games have their scores available on CD.

Does anyone collect these, or is a fan of them? If so, where do you generally get them from?

I do have some of the Jet Set Radio/future tracks on my I-pod which I thought were top notch. You can get the OST's for some of the JAP games on import. Not sure about Western games though.

I buy the odd one or two here or there, I don't have a huge collection but I do prefer scores from anything from 8-bit up to modern.

I have the soundtracks for Jet Set Radio Future as well as Command & Conquer and Red Alert. JSRF was imported from Japan and I think the other two came off ebay.

I have quite a lot of soundtracks up to the last generation but I find most games this generation to be lacking sonically. The sound is better in terms of realism but not been keen on a lot of the music. Bioshock has some lovely music mind and Xenoblade is just wonderful but others haven't grabbed me.

I have the OutRun 20th Anniversary box, if that counts. I don't usually buy soundtracks, though, especially not if I can just listen to them in-game.

Ive got a few downloaded off of torrent sites, favourites being House Of The Dead Overkill & Metal gear Solid 2.

I do try to pick them up if i see them but tbh you don't see them that often. I saw a load in London in a second hand shop once including a few Final Fantasy ones but was flat broke at the time.

I dont have too many modern ones, bar the ones included with special editions of games.

But i do own:
Final Fantasy 7 and 9 official soundtracks
Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles
Ocarina of Time 3D (okay it was free but it still counts!)
I asked for orange. It gave me lemon lime!

I’d like to but most of them are too pricey and there are a lot of fakes about.

That said I did buy the vice city boxset and the first Mario Galaxy Soundtrack.
I’m also more like to buy a game if it includes a soundtrack CD, Persona 4 being one of my favourites.

Finally I downloaded the Xenoblade Chronicles MP3s from club Nintendo and have also bought a few TWEWY tracks off itunes.

Not from anything modern. But then I haven't come across much game music that's particularly interesting.
Some of the tracks from Beyond Good and Evil ('Akuda House Propaganda' and 'Fun and Mini-Games') are great. There are some good Space Harrier, Fairlight and Tomb Raider sets and remixes around the web too.
