Looking to build a database of retro game stores
I am looking for some advice from the retrogamers on the forum, to find all of the independent games stores out there. I am compiling a database so people can find a store local to them - purely old school bricks and mortar, no websites.
This is the work in progress:
http://www.retrogamesnow.co.uk/retro-store-locator
My site is still in early days of development but I'm hoping this will be of use to people looking for games stores local to them, or when they are travelling.
I'm also thinking of adding retro arcades, or arcades that have retro games, which sadly seem few and far between, so I would appreciate your feedback.

I like this idea. If you keep it up to date it will be a handy reference.
Thoughts and prayers.

There's retroplay in Harwich, although i'm unsure if it is an actual shop: http://www.retro-play.co.uk/
That'z Entertainment in Romford has a "small" collection of retro bits, with some good GC games the last time i went in there.
Also, the last time i went into Gamestation in Woolwich they had good retro although that may have changed too!

Like everyone else has said, I think this is a very good idea!
In Liverpool, there's Level Up - not the biggest shop in the world but the stuff they sell is very reasonably priced! http://www.leveluponline.co.uk/

Cool you've got Arcadia on there!!
Re: Looking to build a database of retro game stores
Quick trawl of the web found that one, but it's difficult to pinpoint independents without websites amongst all of the Game, CEX, Blockbuster etc. I am sure there are a bunch out there that need our custom!gmintyfresh wrote:Cool you've got Arcadia on there!!

Fantastic idea!
The only one that was close to me was Replay in Hitchin and that closed down

There is Game World in Leicester (but they only go as retro as PS1)
The Playtime stores in Nottingham, Sheffield and Doncaster usually have a few old items and often have staff capable of answering complicated questions.
Those are the only retro/independant stores I know of.

A visit i always make on my summer holidays......
GamePark
2, Northgate Street
Aberystwyth
Ceredigion
SY23 2JS
always has LOADS and LOADS of retro stuff in there..(ASK to see the Gameboy/GBC/GBA e keeps them under the counter) The SNES/N64 carts are in drawers, so ask about those too.....
I think they do well there,as the Uni is just up the road and the skint students are always trading in anything and everything in search of their next beer
Prices are reasonable...there was a boxed complete Streetfighter 2 SNES in the window for £40 when i popped in there this August.

I think thats a great Idea. I travel the country a lot with my job and am always on the lookout for independent games stores. I would use this A LOT!!

Re: Looking to build a database of retro game stores
Was in a retro shop in morecambe the other day, think it was called Lee's Games. Had a mame cab abortion in there running Super Cobra (at 50p a pop!
). There was more 360/PS3 stuff than retro tbh. Really crap selection of Megadrive titles but they had some Saturn, N64 and NES stuff knocking around and lots of PS1/Xbox games.

Re: Looking to build a database of retro game stores
oh, there's also one in Burnham on Sea...but i'm buggered if i can remember the name of it. It's also tucked down a little side street....i only stumbled across it by accident.
